"We will not comment on statements made by former student-athletes from another university, but I must emphasize that LSU operates an effective compliance program that vigorously enforces NCAA and SEC rules and we work diligently to educate boosters on NCAA rules compliance," LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Joe Alleva said in a statement emailed to the Times Picayune.

Stanley McClover, a defensive tackle at Auburn from 2003-06, said he was attending an football camp at LSU when an anonymous person approached him and gave him a $500 handshake" in 2002 as an inducement to sign with LSU .

A person who attended a rival university makes an undocumented allegation that an unknown person reportedly supporting a different university tried to bribe him and he waited this long to come forward?
Yep If I was a lawyer I'd want to take that to trial.

I've been trying to confirm if in fact, McClover did indeed attend an official LSU football camp when he said he did.

So far, no joy.

Not only was it during the Saban era, but wasn't the current NCAA President our Chancellor at that time? I don't know if it means anything, but it's at least interesting.

Who do you give money handshakes too.
I would think most of the top players in LA that are die hard LSU come here without any inducement.

Now, to get an out of state kid, that could be difficult.

LSU did recruit McClover and Ramsey and at least the accusation is coming from a player that didn't suit up for LSU.

And if LSU was really after kids, how do you lose the Trovon Reed's, Greg Robinson's, Joe McKnight's, and Janzen Jackson's in your own back yard.

I don't understand why booster have to be able to talk to recruits in the first place. What good does that do?

Was it truly boosters or could it have been runners of agents starting the process at recruiting camps?

I've heard people talk about you as one of the dumbest posters on this site. I think they might be correct.

If it did happen (which I question) it's not because LSU was lax in trying to control the bad behavior. Saban and Emmert ran a tight ship. If some good-ole-boy is confirmed to have done that, I say cut his fricking nuts off.

As I read the first post, I was starting to form the opinion that this may have been some kind of backlash from Auburn players (even if former players) due to the heat of the Newton scandal-- not that they should have a particular grudge against LSU. But, in any case, then I read the article where he admits to getting a whole bookbag full of jack from Auburn, which is where he went... soooo... my first thought is out the window. But I agree that there isn't much of a case here. It was years ago, in cash, by someone who can't even be identified. Memory has been proven time and again to not be very reliable. For all anyone knows-- himself included-- he was at a football camp at another school when this happened and is now mistaken. I'm not saying it didn't happen, just agreeing that for numerous reasons I don't think this alone would ever go to trial.

Who is to say it was even an LSU booster that gave him money. If you start to allow stories like this to stick how many people will go to a rival school an anonymously give a kid there some money to get the rival in trouble?

$100 handshakes have been going on for years, and still occur ... yes, even at LSU. If you think otherwise, then you're pretty naive.
