He had the foresight and the business acumen as a great AD to lock up our soon-to-be two-time National Championship-winning baseball coach to a long term contract--great move, Joe!

Share your appreciation here!

Dude, Skip Bertman hired CPM, not Alleva.

I know who hired him, dumbass.

Did I say Alleva "hired" him in the OP?

Read it again.

Take your time.

I'll wait.

The reason Alleva signed CPM to a contract extension was there isn't a better coach out there.

The one that hired the coach is more important than the one that signed him to a contract extension. In my opinion, Joe Alleva isn't that great; many of his decisions were questionable.

Lol.

Okay, I'll come clean.

I started this thread because I knew dumbasses like you would come out of the woodwork--praising CPM to the skies, pulling up threads on anyone who dared criticize him for a decision, YET perennially shitting all over Joe Alleva.

I'm not overly thrilled with Alleva.

But be consistent.

Your "the guy who hires him is more important" is mind-numbingly stupid. Alleva could have let CPM walk to Texas, but he signed him to a huge long-term extension, which many now praising CPM to the skies were screaming about a few months ago.

So with all the Mainieri love around here right now, it's only consistent to credit the man who extended him and kept him at LSU.

If not, why not?

Never said JA was perfect. Hell, many of CPM's decisions are "questionable."

I'll ask you a simple "yes" or "no" question. It doesn't need elaboration or qualification; just answer with one or the other.

Was it a good move by Joe Alleva to extend CPM instead of letting him go to Texas?

Yes or no?

While Joe accomplished something with the extension, it doesn't mean I have to express appreciation for him doing his job.

How quickly attitudes can change.

Although I think it was the right decision to give CPM a long term deal, he never wanted to go to Texas.

Skip also hired Smoke Laval.
Regardless, PM was a gone pecan to Texas before Alleva convinced him to stay with a new contract.

Alleva is not the horrible AD as the morons of the Rant claim. Most of those complaining couldn't run a lemonade stand or manage a Subway.

You miss the point. CPM is a whole different issue and not directly the topic of your thread. I actually think CPM is good at his job and never said I wasn't appreciative of his efforts.

Nice try at deflection. Most Tigers fans that follow sports don't like Joe. That is a fact and no appreciation thread for him doing what he should have done in his job is going to redeem him or change their opinions. Perhaps additional time and hires like Wade/Orgeron having success will soften people's negative image of Joe.

The contract extension was a good thing, but let's face it:
It would have been AD malpractice not to retain him.
Credit?
Ok, but not a huge amount..

I'll tell you what I think about Joe in 3 years. Orgeron's hire was very questionable. I'd be shocked if we win the SEC championship in 3 years. If we do, I'll come back and eat my crow.

No doubt, he should have done it and I am glad he did. However, to jump up and down lauding appreciation for Joe being the one to have done it - a bridge too far. It's his damn job. Plus, simply put he is an arrogant prick.

I'm not sure I agree with you one hundred percent here, but I agree with you about ninety.

So for the sake of argument, let's say I agree.

My point is: this wasn't the case on the Rant, most of which were tearing JA to shreds for signing him to that extension a la Miles and Arkansas.
