He deosn't have more arm strength than JFF. If anything he's slightly below. But, JFF has incredible pocket presence and instincts to make up for lack of arm strength and he's 100% more mobile and athletic than AJ. Terrible comparison IMO.

AJ's best chance at success is having a game similar to Matt Mauck mid 2002 and 2003.

The kid seems to have the right attitude, and the desire to improve.

All you can ask for at this stage.

True. His attitude would worry me a lot more if he was like Jefferson and claimed he played well after a performance like that.

It's encouraging to see. Still should be a competition though in the spring. He lost his #1 spot yesterday. Now he has to earn it back.

Let's attempt to end these threads:

Arky game was promising. Half the Rant thinks Jennings is going to win LSU 5 natl titles in 2 years then will be drafted to the Patriots because they traded all picks for him to be the #1 pick.

Those same people aren't worried a bit about Jennings and his bowl prep for a COMPLETELY different game. They think we will win like Ditka, 45-0...even vs the super bowl winner.

Those same people are the ones that, if by chance, we lose will come up with some excuse: i.e.:
--- LSU didn't care about the bowl, and neither should we.
--- The field was awful, so that's an advantage for a Big 10 team.
--- We showed dominance in the first three quarters, and that is all that matters; win or lose.

Then the other half of the rant is cautiously optimistic that Jennings can avoid "Linsanity", which isn't defined yet. But basically Jennings played very very well, with a game on the line, but since he was a true frosh, he is allowed to tank. With that being said, Jennings played composed and loose, and played a GREAT drive against Arky, but then had to put a full game in and looked like a frosh against a bowl team with a good defense.

All is okay. We won....Jennings will get better. If not then one of the others will step up and Cam Cameron will find out which qb is better, while Chavis finds leaders on the defense, while the ST coach finds out how to stop kickoff return runbacks and Les Miles figures out how to have less drive killing penalties.

ETA...........this won't end any of these threads. Looking forward to a malcontent 2014.

The kid's going to be a good one for sure. Right tools, right attitude. He'll grow into it fast.

no he didn't. If there were a game next weekend he'd be the starter and he'll get the first rep in the spring. Doesn't mean there won't be competition at the position.

Best course of action would be to not tweet at all.

But ... I pretty much feel that way about Twitter as a whole.

People complaining about his arm strength are spoiled by Mettenberger's cannon. Forget that. Arms like they don't come around often. Jennings will never make the throws that Mett could make. The offensive play selection will be altered to fit the throws he is capable of making and his ability to make plays outside the pocket will make it more difficult for opposing defenses to game plan for. LSU will be just fine.

Pocket awareness was on point in that Arky drive and he had a bad game in his first start and now he's Jordan Jefferson. Have people forgotten the numerous times Mett has thrown 50% or below the past 2 years? The games where he has had multiple interceptions, the multiple (almost every game, that he couldn't maneuver in the pocket to save his life?

Yall are grating on the kid bad after his first game and it's against a top ten defense in wet conditions.

This was Mett's first start against North Texas no less after being in college for three offseasons

19-26 192yds 1/1 TD/INT.

He had a 3 game stretch where he completed less than 50% of his passes and a five game stretch where he completed less than 58%.

His bowl game was 14/23 (60%), 1/1 TD/INT, 6 rush -41 yards. THIS against Clemson, THIS after starting all year long, THIS as a junior in college.

I saw Mett fail again this year at Ole Miss, Arkansas, and UF, we won 2-1. The same gamelan they used against UF was the same gameplan they used against IOWA. Jennings and Mett looked almost identical as they were off on wide open receivers, showed no pocket awareness, and were just there to manage the game. AJ threw a pic, Mett fumbled the ball. Difference is Mett has 3 years of experience and coaching on Jennings. So if Mett had troubles in that game and AJ had struggles in his game, with the same exact gameplan, doing the same exact stuff, what does that tell you?

Answer, absolutely nothing.

His leadership on the sidelines was something mentioned in a few interviews with players after the game. There are aspects we as fans do not see on the television, that really make a huge difference.

Im looking forward to a good offseason QB competition. Will make everyone better. Unlike some, I never predicted #6heismans.... so I am still excited for next year.

I like Jennings but if he is Les's boy it does not matter if Harris or any other qb's are better, Les always play's his boy no matter what. Any one remember JJ?

We do not know this yet. I remember after the 08 peach bowl, everyone hear was saying how great JJ was and how he would be a star.

I'm so glad I was a student in the early 00's, coming off the Dinardo years. 03 was a great season to be in the student section.

I had no idea that this fan base would change so much in less than a decade.

This is so true, that was a great year to be a student and fan. I still can close my eyes and see the pass to Skyler Green from the student section and how much fun all the road trips were that year. Everyone was enjoying the ride.

Now, I often find myself listening to fans (including my father) upset because we didn't win by enough or are more worried about being perfect. By doing so they seem to be sucking all the joy out of the game. It is supposed to be fun, enjoy the game root for the team and enjoy that we are a top 10 program every year.
