This will be his second time testing, meaning that if he does return it is almost a guarantee he will leave after next season

So far Days,Smart,Watford, and Emmitt All declared which was expected but

I think the three(Not Emmitt) openly admitting they are retaining their eligibility is a good sign. Hopefully they come back

Can someone explain to me in moron terms why would a player like Smart declare for the draft. Seems as if he would know that he has no shot at being drafted.

He essentially gets to participate in the predraft process, gets a grade from scouts, told what he needs to work on, etc. Then gets to come back to school.

In a normal year he could have the chance to workout for teams and get direct feedback on what to improve. With COVID It’s not likely he will get that opportunity. The only explanation is that he made up his mind he is leaving after next year so mind as well test again this year.

You can declare one time and still come back to school as long as you don’t hire an agent. It allows these players to get feedback from NBA scouts/teams on what they need to work on as well as where they might be drafted.

You can declare twice and hire an NCAA approved agent. This is Smart’s second year declaring while maintaining his eligibility

Smart is that classic player that is between positions
Not sure what his professional position is
He should be able to stick in g league for awhile

For some reason I was thinking they could only do that once - I guess maybe it’s twice?

Even the paper can't handle the shutdown.

It was only once but the new CBA allows it twice now. I made the same initial mistake too

I believe with new rules that took effect in 2016 you can "declare" multiple times without necessarily losing eligibility. Smart "declared" last season also

It would be nice to see Wade's team have one normal year and one normal post-season to see what they can do. Hopefully next year.

Is there anyone who could explain this rule to me. I always thought that you could only declare once. If you declared a second time you had to turn pro

This has been the consensus on this board and it is incorrect. You are able to declare and retain your eligibility twice. If Smart returns and declares next year, he can not return
