Since someone had started a thread earlier in the week calling him a disappointment...

LINK

It's only right to share what the players and coaches have to say about our "6th man" on the O-line. Ryan Miller being healthy bodes well for the success of this team.

LINK

quote:

Miller’s versatility is such a comfort to the Tigers, he could be the first player off the bench at center, guard or tackle if a starter is hurt or having problems, Studrawa said.

“I would have no problem putting that kid at any spot and have total confidence that he would know what’s going on and that he would be able to handle that job,” he said.
Helms said Miller is a vital part of the line whether he’s in a starting or backup role.
“He’s an overall team player,” Helms said. “He’s so unselfish and just does whatever he can for the team. We need more guys like him.”

if he hadn't had injury problems, he probably would have been a 3 year starter

injuries aside, this guy has been a dissapointment. he was a huge recruit for us and never could learn how to play at the college level untill last year. it took him way too long to play strong and learn other OL positions. instead we had to move carnell stewart over to the OL and have lyle hitt start. he is a good backup but could have been great..

how can you put injuries aside?

1) shite happens--that's why we sign 25 every year

3) Didn't he play more in '05 or '06 than he did last year?

I saw that thread ... the idiot got his head handed to him for posting that crap.

What do you call a player that stuck it out through the injuries and the rehab and the years of backup duty to now give us critical top-quality depth on the line? I call it the definition of senior leadership. I see plenty of it on this team.

Nice article, thanks for the link.

You're an idiot. He has already been a quality backup for us (see last drive against UF) and is basically our only proven backup for 2008.

If not for being injured in that Vandy game who knows how awesome he could have been.

Thanks, I couldn't have said it better myself. For every All-SEC player we have there is a player like Ryan Miller, or Peter Dyakowski a couple of years ago, who work hard, wait their turn and make key contributions at critical times.
They all deserve our respect.

Same here Spawn.

Remember LSU had a lineman a few years back that would play anywhere on the line when needed, Rudy Niswanger.

Just out of principle I would never criticize a college player on a message board. They deserve our %100 support, also it sends the wrong message to potential recruits.

On the other hand I have no problem with criticizing the coaching, if needed, because it is their job to prepare the players and they are paid professionals. If a player falls short of our expectations I think it reflects more on the coaching than the player.

Yo' Dad

I comin' your way next weekend. I'm gonna ring you up.

He was going to be the starter for the remainder of the 2005 season when he went down....he is also not a tackle. You are an arse.

FAIL

So it was Les M's fault when Ryan P. fell short of expectation???

Nope... and I knew that someone would bring RP up as an example.

I am talking about expectations ON the field. For example if Les recruits a corner back who lacks the skill to cover SEC recievers then it falls back on Les and other coaches to either teach him better cover skills or find someone else. If the effort is there but the talent is lacking then it's not the cornerbacks fault. If the effort is not there he should not see the field in the first place.
As for RP it became obvious that he did not have what it took to do what was expected of him to earn the privilege to get ONTO the field Les cut him loose.
In my mind, that is the sign of a good coach, that he wasn't going to keep him around only to put him in a position to let the team down at a critical point of the season.

Thanks for giving me the chance to make that point.

RM is alot better than people give him credit for. The dude's a stud. When he's healthy he's a good a lineman as LSU has.
