it's clear that coastal carolina is the better team

we may still win it; the best team doesn't always win.
we have a 3 yr starting pitcher that doesn't cover first or home correctly and they score 2 runs. the first run was a guy that hit a ground ball to second baseman, reaches safely, then advances to second on a deep fly ball out (never have I seen LSU do that) and then steals third easily.
on the other hand, we have runners on second and third with 1 out and our best hitters up and can't even get one run. and the guy was on third because he couldn't score from second base on a double.
we may have a hitting coach and a batting coach but we damn sure don't have a coach that coaches defense or a baserunning coach.
you can call this a negative post all you want but it really isn't. facts are facts. I love this team but we just aren't fundamentally sound in some of the basics of baseball and it's biting us in the arse.
we still in it but it we are going to have to overcome our weaknesses to win it.

We are more talented, they are just smarter and they don't hurt themselves. Every time they get a runner on first he atleast reaches second. On the other hand we keep hitting into double plays and getting caught stealing

which is pretty much what I said. beating yourself in that we aren't fielding worth a shite from the pitcher spot, make poor arse throws from the field to a base and can't throw a fricking base runner out at second or third base. that is for sure beating yourself. BUT, those guys pressure the defense constantly and we aren't good enough to stop them. and our hitters aren't getting it done either but that can change. the poor base running and poor fundamental defense can't; it's either they aren't good at executing basic baseball plays or they haven't been coached very well at it.
