People are just pissed because during the game last night (and during many games) he does his job by getting excited about a long fly ball that may go over the fence. When it doesn't, they get pissed at him for it and

If you think the recent job by Hawthorne has been his usual "stuff" then this must be your first year following LSU sports.

Then you must be blind or delusional. Fly ball calls are the least of his deficiencies.

And again, another Hawthorne defender completely bereft of a legitimate defense.

Twenty-seven Hawthorne threads, and still not a single person can step up and defend Hawthorne's skills as an announcer.

That's because it's impossible.

FTR, I don't hate the guy -- he's the only Voice of the Tigers I remember -- but he's not good, and it's time for someone new (and better).

His job is to accurately describe the game to those who are unable to see it in person. To that end he is horrible. His calls are wrong and/or incomplete leaving the listener to guess what iss really going on.

Face it. He is terrible!

Those may not be the same thing, fwiw. I remember people complaining about John Ferguson. Then when he left, people talked about how great he was as an announcer.

Hawthorne will be called the best LSU announcer in history.....not long after he moves on.

Nor are they mutually exclusive, which some of his backers seem to think.

How could you define announcing skills? Personally I think he does a great job. Those complaining haven't heard enough announcers from other collegiate teams.
