It's potentially the best QB situation since Russell/Flynn/Perrilloux, but that's not really saying much.

And really, it's hard to imagine LSU ever had, or will have, a better QB situation than 2006. I know Perrilloux didn't play that season or pan out, but that was just really talented depth.

To give the dude credit he said "potentially" in his subject. Potential wise and talent wise these guys are up there with Russell/Flynn/Perilloux.Randall has a big arm like the other 2 but can run better,Rivers has the pedigree and Mett is a monster.

Thank you. That's all this was, a discussion about possiblities. Of course no one on the planet knows RIGHT NOW. I'm sure people were drooling to see Perrilloux take over for Flynn in '08 also.

By default, it would have to at least be the best since Flynn/Perrilloux in 2007. That was good enough to win the national championship. If we came within one game and a gift to Alabama of winning it with Jefferson, we have to be the favorite to win it this year with practically anybody at QB.

Rivers and Randall are unproven but I don't buy that with Mett. He has proven himself to be a really good quarterback his entire football career.

Mett did not just drop out of the sky. He is special and has proven ever chance he has had. On the practice field, in spring game last year and most importantly in his junior college career.

I think some of you need to take a look at what he did in junior college. The guy is good. He isn't a total unknown like a guy straight out of high school.

JJ and Lee never looked as good as Mett. They only started before him because of seniority and AT FIRST having a better grasp on the playbook and chemistry with the WR's. Those last two knocks are long gone and likely were midway through the last season.

Watch his play.. look at his numbers... watch him practice and you will see he is the real deal.

What should have been....

Flynn is a given...getting developed and now being a starter....If JaMarcus gave a damn and was never a Raider...potential wise...He should have been like Big Ben. Ryan P? If he wasnt a knucklehead at LSU....he should have played out his last two years at LSU at a higher level. Went 1st round and been at least on the level of a Mark Sanchez.

Too bad only Flynn was serious about football.

Means nothing. Remember a dummy named Bryan Sparacicno from Denham Springs. He was a god in junior college. Not so good in SEC school.

I am alot more optimistic about Mett because he was damn near the starter at UG.

Strong arm doesn't mean accurate arm and we have an entire menagerie of talented running backs for running with the football in their hands.

Exactly. He has shown "it" on the practice field he has shown "it" on the game field. At Georgia at the JC level and at LSU.

Everyone on the team has known for a long time that Mettenburger has the best arm on the team.

Is he another Brees/Manning, I am not saying he is. But I am not betting that he isn't either. That I don't know, but he will be the best QB on the field in the vast majority of the football games LSU plays this year.

Butch Duhe as I recall was a very highly rated recruit from Holy Cross. Too bad he passed away a week before the '70 opener against A&M.
I guess Mike Hillman must have graduated in '69.

Silver lining - if nothing had happened to perilloux and finished out his career we would still be stuck with JJ this year. He would have redshifted his first year and still be our qb this year with probably no Mett

Potentially yes, but that ain't notin unless Miles opens up the passing game, and Mett/Rivers do it on the field.

Flynn Perrilloux was damn good. Flynn was better than everyone without the last name of Flynn thought and the 2nd string QB was the SECCG MVP and an integral part of the NC team.
