Currently hold the SEC and national football titles

Currently hold the SEC basketball title and leading the league this season

No doubt we’re the flagship athletic program of the conference

I live in Georgia, not too far from Clemson. Most of the non-Clemson fans at work told me they were on our side for the championship game. We've just been a fun team to watch.

Well they are 15-4, undefeated in conference. & not even ranked in the top 25. So I would say not quite yet.

I live in vb,va. I have an assortment of LSU polos and pullovers I wear year round. For years I've gotten an "LSU " or "geaux tigahs". We've been popular forever.

You're going to ignore Army with Blanchard and Davis? or maybe Yale with all those national championships?

ND hasn't held that role since Holtz left.

LSU had a national following decades ago because they played games at night and were broadcast on WWL, 50 thousand watts, clear channel. That was prior to 24 hr sports TV broadcast. They were probably second behind Notre Dame as America's favorite team in those days.

Notre Dame's "Four Horsemen" team of 1924 was the first true mass media sensation in college football. They captured the imagination of the country almost 100 years ago and have held it ever since. Sure, America loved Army in the 1940s, but they never supplanted Notre Dame's nation-wide appeal in the long term.

I think you're wrong about that. They are the 8th most profitable CFB brand, according to Forbes, despite a limited regional appeal and limited postseason success. Every time Notre Dame is halfway decent, they garner twice the media coverage of even the best teams in CFB.

Finally, their national appeal easily eclipses that of USC, Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, or any other CFB "blue blood." The only program that comes CLOSE is Michigan. Take a look at this 538 map and enter all those teams, then come back and tell me I'm wrong.

My post got a bunch of downvotes, sure, but all that says is that people on this board don't want Notre Dame to be America's team. Despite that anti-ND sentiment, Notre Dame is, in fact, America's team. There is no other team with the national appeal and staying power of Notre Dame.
