I mean I kind of get it. This is different from opting out for the draft which is selfish.

It's a reasonable guess. If true, I'd rather Boutte sit this game and come back next year to raise his stock than have him play this game and get hurt or raise his stock enough to leave or opt out next season.
I still believe it's a team rule violation and/or grade issue.

That we’ve now got players coming back next year opting out of bowls is ridiculous. The system needs to change with these bowl games.
