In your eyes? I don't think he gets enough credit for the things he did for our state, but especially LSU.

He did more to put LSU on the map than anyone in history. I think he wrote "Touchdown for LSU" if I'm not mistaken.

I knew that was coming. You can definitely argue both sides. However, in this case I am talking about his legacy as far as LSU is concerned.

Without Huey Long, LSU the school and LSU the football program aren't even close to what they are today. He really should have a statue on campus. The man literally built LSU from the ground up.

Yes. No doubt in my mind he is responsible for LSU football at the outset...

Oh my. Louisiana history classes must have been suspended for some in the state.

Huey Long was dangerous, corrupt to the core and the closest thing to a dictator America has ever known.

How do I know this? One of my late grandmother's cousins, a man named Murphy Rodan from the Arcadia, LA area, was one of Long's bodyguards when he was assassinated. The stories about Long that were passed along from Rodan to members of my family after Huey's death were simply astonishing.

If anything, Dr. Weiss deserves a statue.

Don't take my word for it, watch this short video excerpt from Ken Burn's 1986 documentary on Long.

Seriously? He is credited all the time from what I've seen.

He deserves the credit he gets for his impact on LSU; however, politically, he was maybe the worst thing that ever happened to Louisiana. You think there is a good ole boy network now? It was 10000x worse when Huey was there giving backrubs.

Well, we probably went through the same school system, judging by your name. I was really talking about his contributions to LSU more than the state. Im sure he was no saint, but I don't think younger generations are going to be aware of those contributions. I guess I'm wondering if he will fade away in the future or will he always be brought up when talking about LSU tradition.
