Is 2017 the year we see our receiving depth become useful?

Bored at work, and figured I'd try to start a discussion:
Can you name how many times this decade LSU, as a team, has thrown 25 TD passes in a season? If you're stumped, it's because we have yet to do so (not since 2007, actually). Even in our admittedly anomalous 2013 season, Mettenberger threw only 22 TD passes; 18 of which went to the Gods, Odell and Jarvis. And since that year, the TD production from the QB position has stepped off a cliff. No, really:
2014 - 17 touchdowns
2015 - 13
2016 - 10
I know we have been clamoring for a game manager / field general type, but that is downright depressing. With the number of playmakers we have at the receiver position, I really don't think ~25 passing touchdowns per year is asking for much (would've been good for 35th in the NCAA this season).
Enter Canada. This year, Pitt had at least five players tally 20 or more receptions this year, and threw 26 TD passes on the season (on only 26 more attempts than LSU!). Taking one look at our receiving corps and thinking about that kind of production spread throughout, I can't help but get excited at the thought of all of these guys getting a lot of touches this season, besides the usual 2 or 3 of them:
DJ Chark
Drake Davis
Dee Anderson
Stephen Sullivan
Derrick Dillon
Jamal Pettigrew
Jacory Washington
Those guys are all either highly touted or shown flashes of being really good at the college level, and it'd be great to see them all put to good use
I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but I really think Canada sets us up well for a balanced and explosive attack, and we get to watch a fun LSU offense again.

It's the reason we cleaned house. More versatile, more creative, more wide open. Just more.

Can't wait to see our receivers like Davis and Chark in a competent system

The size and athleticism of Anderson, Sullivan, and Davis is ridiculous. I think they'll be beasts in their second year

I've gotten burned too many times thinking:
"This OC will change things..."
"This QB will change things..."
I'll hold off judgement until the BYU game, no one really knows what we'll look like until then.
And if anyone does know, all this talk about "players not plays" must have flown out the window. No one should know what the offense will look like in 2017, not even Canada, because we don't even know what players we will have.

Get out of here with realistic comments!!!

our TEs are about to see a huge increase in their production

I don't think O is going to try and dabble too much in the offensive game-planning though, and Canada is gonna let the best QB sling it around. Plus, it's way more fun to be delusionally optimistic, IMO

In the short term, it is more fun to be "delusional" and optimistic but honestly that just leads to frustration and more blame when we come out vs BYU and throw for 10/20 and 115 yards with no touchdowns and an interception. (We still win the game with 375 rushing yards and suffocating defense but come on, same ole' LSU offense)
I'm not saying that will happen, I'm just saying I don't want to throw anything at the TV after I got all hyped thinking a different OC/QB would change things, again.

In addition to this, I want to see Maea Teuhema truck some fools next year:

I remember when I was a freshman having Terrance Toliver in a class and hearing him complain about if he had gone to any other school he'd probably have at least twice as many catches (This was during the Jarret Lee pick-six year)
It's crazy when you think about the talent that we've had at receiver that we haven't utilized well. I think in 2010 we had three 5 star guys starting (Randle, Toliver, Shepard). I know stars don't always translate to the game but two of those guys are in the league and Toliver did have a brief stint before he went CFL

I definitely get your point. I think we've been so pessimistic these past couple of years that average production has been skewed towards really gaudy numbers.
It shouldn't be delusional for us to expect ~2 passing touchdowns a game in this day and age, but Cam and Les have us thinking otherwise.

The dismissal of RP set all the ineffective quarterbacking issues in motion.

Well it depends on the QB play as usual. If Canada finds a QB he has confidence in then I'm sure we'll see an uptick in passing TDs. If Canada can trust his QB then I think he'll use our receivers' size in the red zone.
It's pretty scary to think about the sheer size that Canada will have at his disposal in the red zone. This might be the tallest receiving corp in LSU history.

1) Our passing game simply has to get better. No argument there
2) We have had a couple of pretty good running backs the last 2 years that seem to enjoy taking it to the house themselves.
3) 25 seems pretty arbitrary. Could you provide some correlation between this magic number 25 and team success?

Eh I just went to ESPN's team stats page and sorted total offense by passing touchdowns and landed at 25 (tied for 35th in FBS this season). Entirely arbitrary, but then again I think our passing attack can be as potent as Mizzouri, Miami (OH), Penn State, etc. without sacrificing the run game. Additionally Pitt threw 26 this year, so it's not out of the question for a Canada-led offense.
I think if anything a good passing attack can lend a hand for Guice et al. next year. Canada's offense also rushed for ~230 ypg and 35 touchdowns this year. I think he'll do a good job of understanding our strengths & weaknesses.

The entire combined history of lsu and bama football have produced 6 seasons with more than 25 passing tds.
