Yes, but not at the school that has the NC. Last year's game was in South Carolina. But yeah, the 2 coaches were both on the same field, just not in Florida.

Since I think it's pretty evident this hasn't happened before, let me throw this out there. Can you name the current coaches in Div-I that have won a national championship, but NOT with their current team?
We know Spurrier and Saban.

Must have won his NC as a HEAD coach.

Dennis Erickson was head coach at Miami in 89 and 91 when he won them, and is currently head coach at Arizona State

I forget Miami's current coach's name, but if he wins one at Miami and then Miami-ASU plays while Erickson is still there, well, there you have it.

True, but Zook didn't win one at UF. Both coaches would have won a NC, but that happens kind of often. When Tenn plays Florida, When Ohio St plays USC this year, etc. The rarity is that both coaches won at the same school.
I think it would be neat to throw out some trivia during the offseason. Some SEC trivia or something. The poster would have the link at the ready with the proof of the right answer. And the first person to produce the right answer wins, uh, I don't know, a car or something. A million TD.com dollas.
