Local Coaches Cheer on Players in Super Bowl

Johnson was a highly-touted prospect and signed with LSU out of West St. John.

At LSU, Dupont said that Johnson was getting lost in the shuffle at linebacker under former coach Nick Saban. After Saban left LSU for the Miami Dolphins, Les Miles was hired and moved Johnson to fullback, which Dupont said was the right decision.

“(Miles) discussed it with me, and I said, ‘Coach that is a great move,’ ” Dupont said. “Miles had recruited Quinn when he was at Oklahoma State to play fullback. Quinn was a great fullback in high school. He could block and run, and he played middle linebacker for us too. He was definite a prototype fullback, and I think everyone saw that when they moved him.

“If he stayed at linebacker, I don’t know if he even gets on the field at LSU.”

I went and watched him and Tyson play in High School. I was DUMBFOUNDED that he was being recruited as a LB and not a FB.

His high school coach is leaving out one part. Quinn was getting very confused at linebacker. He was not picking up Saban's defense. I remember this like it was yesterday. He wasn't playing there for a reason. Anyway everything turned out for the best. Tyson and Quinn were at the highest 2 to 3 star players because of the small school stigma. It was Saban that saw past all that. It was Saban who signed them not Les. Saban saw their talent. Les took advantage of it.

Not like they were unknowns. Jackson had an Oklahoma St offer and other D1 offers and sounds like Johnson was on Miles radar.

Interesting.

It looks like Les was actually the one that knew what he was looking at when evaluating these guys.

Under Saban you get a confused lost in the shuffle kid heading nowhere.

Under Miles you get a kid placed in position to excel who's going to the SuperBowl with a great NFL salary.

Les win. (well, more like Quinn win)

There is nothing wrong with your memory - it is your comprehension that is at fault.

The snippet clearly mentions that Les recruited Quinn and that too only at Fullback.

But hey it is so much easier for you to be typing out crap about Les

The point is Saban, who was known for moving players to spots other than what they were recruited for, missed the mark on QJ. Can't win'm all. Les got it right. Same with Barksdale and likely with Copeland.

Even CLM finds a nut now and then.

Lesser schools (OSU) also will offer prospects being recruited by better programs(LSU) the chance to play offense just to get them on board.

interesting theory

is that why Saban offers so many recruits a chance to play "Jack Linebacker"?
