I wish Elvin Hayes would have been LSU's First Black Basketball Player. Could you imagine him and Pete Maravich on the same team.

I am an old white man and was very impressed with the article. I have a new admiration for Collis Temple.Raised outstanding sons based on the principle of accountability. He is a true Tiger! How could anyone downvote this?

A true tiger wouldn't strong arm the university to get his buddy hired.

And this isn't racial. Temple fricked over Trent Johnson by getting Louisiana players to leave

ETA: I commend him for his strength and will power to persevere early in life, but he has not been a true tiger as of late

I stopped reading when it said Garrett was part of an all-black starting squad in 2006...what the frick is the point of that comment?

The entire nation was racist as Hell in the beginning of the 70's and prior to that. It's not like it was just LSU

And you know this how? And by the way, there's no appropriate read for racist behaviour.

He did help to raise two good kids who did LSU proud.

However, there is another side to Collis Temple that is very much a matter of public record, with his business dealings in the community that is far less flattering than Collis portrayed in the article.

I was not aware of his business dealings. I do like that he raised two good kids who did LSU proud.

What leverage did Collis have with Aleva? I can't fault a man for strongly supporting a friend for a coaching vacancy. It didn't work out... oh well, it happens. I've got a ton of respect for the Temple family!

Oh idk, his influence with Dale and other LSU alum. The fact that he attempts to run U-high as well. He coordinated Big Baby, Garrett, and a few others to LSU when Brady was here.

He's been behind the scenes of LSU basketball for a while now.

Agreed on the kids, the business dealings again...a matter of public record over many years and speak for themselves.

Good article. The Temple family have made LSU a better university. The entire SEC was so far behind the rest of the country with integration in the 60's and 70's. It would have much easier for Temple to play at Michigan State than LSU. He stayed home and made LSU a better place.

It's a great story, I've just been around too long to have read about this before. As far as the down votes, sadly, emotions are high right now.

Great story. Read it LINK Side note: how long till the PMAC gets a name change when they figure out he was a racist?

Jeez, in 2017, a thread about a black student athlete's racial struggles receives 28 upvotes to 67 downvotes? What has gotten into this place over the past couple years?
