Incoming LSU infielder O'Neal Lochridge is going to need to clear some space for some more hardware.

The talented infielder was named the inaugural Marucci Sports Baseball Player of the Year on Wednesday, an honor bestowed by the ever-growing Baton Rouge-based baseball bat and equipment company.

Lochridge was earlier named the Most Outstanding Player by the Louisiana Sportswriters Association and was recognized as a Louisville Slugger All-American.

As a senior at St. Thomas More, Lochridge was one of the state's best all-around players. He led the Cougars, who won their second consecutive Class 4A state crown with a .454 batting average, 19 doubles, 12 home runs, 21 stolen bases and 53 RBIs.

Headed to the Tigers as part of an important recruiting class full of position players, Lochridge will likely get a chance to start right away at third base. He and teammate Brennan Breaux and fellow Lafayette native Antoine Duplantis are considered three of the state's top position players.
