You can't keep that kind of size and speed off the field. He will be playing next season.

Generally I agree w/ you, yet we managed to keep some big/fast guys off the field this year a lot.

Travesty he’s only a 3 star. He could be a 1 star for all I care. That tape is stupid with his speed and closing ability

Impressive and exciting to see some speed on a corner or even MLB.

I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again: this trendy new trend of referring to the speed of football players in MPH is stupid. Football players NEVER run a mile, and they NEVER run for an hour. We’ve always measured the speed of football players by their 40s, and their 100s, because those measurements are applicable and relevant to the game, plus we’ve got a 100 year history with which we can compare. Stop the MPH nonsense!

That's close to Fournette speed with another 30 pounds on him. Yikes!!!!

Fournette ran a full second faster than him in the 100 meter dash in HS. This kid is very gifted but let's not be ridiculous with the comparisons.

If we were comparing their 40s and 100s, this argument wouldn’t be necessary. I’ll bet nobody knows how many MPH Fournette ran….and that was only ~10 years ago.

You don’t understand the application of the stat. And that’s ok. But don’t throw a fit about it

How many times in a game does a defensive lineman run 40 yards or 100 yards compared to the number of times he may reach his top end speed in shorter bursts or distances?

You don’t either. Admit it. How many MPH did Key run? Mingo? Chaisson?

And why would it matter, when an edge rusher runs 5-15 yards on most plays?

Without looking, name 3 other players that run 20.77 MPH. Who runs 22MPH? Who tops out at 19MPH? Without looking, how many MPH does Bolt Run? Holliday?

Actually it’s not stupid. There is science behind it. A lot of the time they are testing this in flying 10’s or 20’s and seeing what their maximum velocity is and how quickly they can reach it. You are clearly ignorant, not a coach and not in the industry. I on the other hand am, so it’s best you sit this one out.

Gabriel Reliford enters LSU as an early enrollee

He starts lifting weights.

Do you think it’s worthless to track his lifts?

Or over a period of time(let’s say 5 years), lsu analytics track the speed of each position group, and come up with a median speed for each position.

Lsu coaches show up to a camp, or host their own, with this technology. Or gather data from HS or colleges for potential transfers.

They might get 15min to look at a kid. They might not get to see a kid in person at all. But they can immediately compare & apply the data to see how these kids measure up.

The same reason a combine exists. It’s not to brag that someone runs 20mph. It’s used to cross check & compare against other players or position medians.

It’s too bad they only measure MPH with all of that expensive technology
