The season after the first Natty.

If there was tRant back then... what would the melt have been like?

"Fire Skip!"

"The game has passed Skip by!"

A better thread would be about the 2000 team that started 6-5 and was fresh off Houston sweeping them out of the Box.

Thread doesn't even make sense because LSU took 2/3 from Maine and was 9-2. So the melt wouldn't have been very bad at all. Plus Skip was only about 50 so no one would have wondered if the game passed him by.

2000 makes more sense. Skip was older and at the end of the line. Plus the 1999 season was pretty sub-par for Skip teams. Houston smoked us. "Skip has lost it"

"It's just baseball."

I actually would love to see what rant would look like for the 92 football season

That wasn't an especially good Maine team either. I think they won less than 20 games that year. They had won 48 the year before though.

Go look at all of the mid week loses in '91, you'll be shocked. Maine was a powerhouse in baseball in the 70's and 80's, so that isn't a big deal. In 2000, we got swept by Houston at The Box to begin the season. Sky was falling then too, just one little detail happened at the end of that season though.

Remember when ESPN first started and they would show CWS and Maine was in it. (back when ncaa prioritized region over seed or rpi)

One of my first CwS memories is Maine blowing a huge lead to Arizona in the 8th and 9th innings.

So Maine used to go the CwS. (have been 7 times in 70’s and mostly 80’s)

cool story bro etc

My favorite. I think Skip won at least 2 titles after "the game passed him by"

Maine was really good back then. Just about the only northern school that emphasized baseball.

Nicholls beat that 09 team too. Loyola beat Nicholls in 09. Loyola is the 09 national champs imho.

My favorite part of that series was a student yelling "bet you can't do that again!"

He hits his third(?) HR of the game

Same student yells "don't do that shite again!"
