Agree. You talk about a school with zero basketball history pulling a good coach away from the Big 12. It definitely raised an eyebrow when it happened.

Was Martin actually looking to leave somewhere, and South Carolina just happened to be one of the jobs that were open at the time?

Martin wore out his welcome at KSU and half the team was poised to transfer BUT he had other options so it was still an impressive pull for them.

I feel like he had a connection to USC that drove him there. The initial consensus around he was there were some type of allegations he wasn't running from and there was pressure from the KU admin about his antics. Talk about polar opposite from Bill Snyder

They actually have some history with Frank McGuire.

USCe is one of the worst basketball programs in all of basketball

This is their complete "history"

Martin was nearing the point where he wasn't welcome at KSU....don't think this is comparable

It takes both sides really wanting to move. The consensus is that Martin wanted to get out of K-State bad, just like Buzz Williams wanted to leave Marquette. Credit USC and Va. Tech's AD for having their ears to the ground and pouncing when the opportunity presented itself.

Is there a disgruntled good coach out there right now? It doesn't seem like it because schools like Mizzou, Illinois, NC St. and Washington have all made hires with (except for Illinois) relatively little fan fare. Maybe the Illinios hire is the best comparison to Martin for this coaching cycle.

Alleva has a watertight excuse. It's himself.

Really? When SC got Martin he wasn't a "splash" hire....and he also wanted to leave K State as well because he wasn't getting along with the administration. SC was a step down from K State...which was in a basketball conference.

Subjective opinion.

I think it was. Martin had some pretty good skins on the wall when he left KState for USCe.

He was rumored to be taking the Miami Coaching job while at KState.

Curious, still convinced that Frank Martin "wasn't a "splash" hire"

John Brady made one Final 4 too. Keep that in mind.

Anyone not pumped about Will Wade is a fricking idiot

I AM NOT claiming Wade is better than Martin
