he would have a couple successful seasons, he would bolt for the NFL and leave us searching for a new HC.

I agree with this! I think LSU should always refuse to go after the best coach available and look for someone no one else will want. It worked great when the best coach in NCAA football left to head to the Dolphins.

Clearly, if Les Miles ever decides* to leave, we should replace him with Elwood P. Suggins. No one else would ever want him.

*Why would LSU ever fire Les? He will never leave for a better job because no other better job would want him. That's why I want him to be here forever. Apparently the poster I quoted from agrees. We must both love: never seeing freshman get meaningful PT, continuous "stupid" penalties (offsides, DoG, ill participation/substitution, etc.), poor clock mgmt, poor gameplanning, playing not to win, playing non-aggressive/uninspired, etc. And anyone who thinks all those things are just from the last two seasons and/or soley the fault of Perrilloux wasn't paying much attention the first few years of the Miles regime

I want the damn best coach we can get. If that means the NFL comes calling every year, so be it. And I'm tired of all these random "requirements" (i.e. must have BCS HC experience). The best potential HCs out there right now without a current HC job - none of them have BCS HC experience.

Does anyone here really believe that Jon Gruden has interest in coaching LSU?

I don't think there is any chance he would coach at LSU.

This guy is a professional coach. His ego will keep him in the NFL.

Les was a good hire at the time. However, the extra $4million was not very smart on lsus part.

At that late time in the game, he really was the last man available.

i dont know if it would work. hes a complex offensive minded coach like charlie weis (and gary crowton for that matter).

they get so complicated that their offenses only work with veteran college teams (LSU 2007 and ND 2006) or NFL teams.

whe weis was breaking in young players, offense was abysmal - lost his job. same with crowton and his two young QBs in JL and JJ.

Jack Del Rio has 3 winning seasons and a career record of 57-55. And he played at USC.

Why do people get excited about hiring this guy?

The ones who get excited are the anyone-but-Miles group.
