Today was a good day Josh. Romero is forcing PM's hand.

That being said, Auburn has the worst pitching in the league. I'm hopeful, but it's probably a false hope. We still have real problems to fix if we want to finish 0.500 in the SEC.

Romero in the lineup feels good. I think we are gonna need he and Pap in there together, however we can make that happen.

Could Romero play first?

You can see glimpses of how good they could be. They are young, but are growing up fast. They may look totally different by the SEC tourney.

[Could Romero play first?]

He has not played first since his junior year of high school. Coach had him try it at practice last week and it showed. I don't think we will see Romero at 1B.

That's what I was wondering. It could be a key to solving two or three issues had it worked.

So he's just supposed to pick it right back up and be a Katz?! Not even going to coach him up and see if it improves and worth it?

Never say never, but I don't think we will be seeing him at 1B in the near future.

if it's that damn obvious what the hell is Dunn doing to correct it? pitching is somewhat like the golf swing, once the defect is confirmed the fix is not that difficult. it does take time tho.

Fact is, despite being 18-9, 4-5 SEC; we have an RPI of 21 right now which is pretty damn high.

The Vanderbilt series this weekend is where Lange needs to make his biggest impact. If we could somehow take 2 of 3 against Vandy at home, that would be gigantic for not only making a regional, but even potentially hosting one still.

there is something to be said for not overreacting to one game or series..either negatively or positively.

but, it sure is good to win a series. Never would have guessed the one game they lose is the game Lange pitches.

Only for lack of trying.

As long as he's in the lineup, it's a positive.

My sentiments as well. This team has lots of speed. If it can develop an identity as team that will be stingy on giving-up runs (as the OP notes) and can manufacture and scratch-out a run here-n-there, it could be a very good season.

Lange is trying to make the batter swing and miss on every, single pitch he throws. It would do him some good to get a ground out/fly out occasionally. It would help him to keep his pitch count down. Instead of trying to throw 94 mph on the black with every fastball, attempt a 91 mph fastball on the outer third of the plate. He might be amazed at how many quick outs he could get and find himself still in the ball game in the 8th inning.

A few Lange stats tell the story:

All 2016 games

WHIP 1.54 (Walks and hits per inning pitched)

Wild pitches 10

The rest of LSU's staff

WHIP 1.32

Lange 2016 SEC only

WHIP 1.68

WP 5

Lange 2015 season

WHIP 1.17

WP 12

This pitching staff is not even close to others in the SEC. For example, Vandy, USC, UF have multiple pitchers with ERA under 2. LSU does not have 1 pitcher on team with an ERA under 2. Really??
