If I we're a betting man, I'd say Alleva screwed up the Chavis deal

Say what you want, but I think Alleva screwed this up. He's a crappy AD regardless. I'd like to see him replaced by a competent AD.

Why is that man still LSU's AD? Am I missing something?

He's terrible, but no DC is worth $1.7 million. Good on him for not giving in to the price war.

Maybe he's actually a great AD. He didn't fold to a football assistant coach. I would have done the exact same thing.

I know for absolute fact this is true.

Chavis was NOT demanding more money from LSU. Chavis wanted to stay at LSU and would have signed his contract several weeks back.

I work with a guy who is very good friends with John Chavis' son.

This was mostly, if not all, on Alleva.

I think he made the right decision letting Chavis walk although I wasnt too happy about the contract clause - that part was shitty of Alleva IMO

3rd and Chavis was overrated! He is actually worth about $750,000 a year.

Are you fricking serious? Do you realize that our only chance to avoid a total disaster with this year and next years recruiting class will be a HR hire. That will be more than 1.7m. That 1.7 that you are proud of Aleeva for saving will go to another DC...and then some. We probably need to go to 2m if we want to make the kind of statement that our program needs asap.

letting your best assistant walk over a few 100k or an extra year or two on their contract is insane.

1. You're probably not going to get an unbiased opinion from him.

2. How do you know that Chavis' kid even knows what the hell he's talking about? I never knew shite about the details of my father's employment.

If I'm CLM, I go to Chief and ask him if aTm offered him 1.7 (several days ago). Then I go to Alleva and say, I need him, match the 1.7 OR I don't think he's worth that, let the current offer stand and let him walk.

Of course he's pi$$ed at LSU for not ponying up. And concurrently probably at CLM as well for not standing up for him. Frankly I don't know where Alleva stands. Who does he answer to? LSU? TAF?

All I know at Bama, EVERYONE answers to Saban. Nothing happens without his blessing. So there. We officially have a rudderless ship.

I'm not sure he did screw it up. Let's see what we end up with first.

agreed.

$1.7M for what the chief did was beyond ridiculous.

If only he didn't give into the price war when Leslie leveraged him with Arkansas.

Looking back, I agree. aTm can offer it because they are beyond desperation. It may pay off, maybe not.

But the question is supposed why was CLM begging him to stay last night? They knew days ago what the thing was - money. If CLM was begging him to stay with a 1.7 offer, then why did it come to that. If it was the original, then CLM should have been at Alleva's door days ago and giving him an earful.

This is just more evidence that things are just a little disjointed up there. There's not 5 year plan anymore in CFB, you can't get left in the current anymore or you won't get out.
