I saw way too many 3 man rushes against FSU with zero pressure.

Especially without Smith in the game. WTF was House thinking?

Easy, we have to protect a weak secondary, so they were playing zone and not letting people behind them in long 3rd down situations. The one time he brought the house, we got toasted.

Well I’d rather bring pressure and force the QB to make a quick decision than to let him sit back in the pocket and pick you apart like he did.

yes and one of them costed us a TD. we had them pinned on 3rd and long and the QB was rattled 2 plays in a row. We pulled back and sent in 3 man rush and gave up a big 1st down.

And the times he rushed three and dropped eight, they converted long third downs.

Nothing that goofball did worked.

I kept waiting for Perkins to get opportunities to get after the qb...they never did.

we didn't need to send the house. keep the 4 man rush every down and try to scheme one blitzer every now and then. that's what we should've done with perkins and everyone knows it. or let perkins be the 4th man.

I agree and understand, but you better get to him if you are going to do that with our secondary.

Defensively, it was a nightmare. I thought Wingo played well but outside of that, Travis was able to get to the edges and create at will. Just an abysmal defensive performance.

when we rushed it was already too late. QB had already found his rhythm. Its the plays before that that mattered most.

When it was time to step on his throat we have him relief. BAD CALLS and even WORSE TIMINING

This.

Seriously, how often do you see a 3 man rush get any pressure on the QB? Unless you have one or two D-linemen that can consistently beat a double team, it’s fricking useless.

A 3 man rush should only be used in a prevent defense situation.

Exactly. Travis had all day to throw when we rushed three. In zone coverage, he's going to find someone wide arse open with 4 or 5 seconds to unload.

Plus, he never mixed up coverages that I could see. We sat in soft zone almost the entire second half, and that's when Travis picked us apart.

It reminded me of the game a few years back where the opposing team was bragging about knowing exactly what we were doing so it was easy to beat us. It may have been Les' last season or two.

If I were DC I would have had Travis under pressure most of the night. I would not have used Perkins the way they used him that's for sure. He would have been used very much like last season by turning him loose, lining him up in different spots on defense on both sides of the defense, and sometimes up the middle to keep the FSU OLine confused as to where he's coming from. He rushes Travis all night and does what he does best, cause havoc, and call delayed rushes too from other spots. Designed and delayed DB pass rushes, delayed LBer rushes from different players from different angles all designed to keep Travis running and under pressure. You make mistakes when you're under pressure, and LSU did not cause hardly any kind of pressure on this kid. He just sat back there and picked them apart with the terrible secondary play they had going on too. The game plan on defense was terrible. Smh

The only time in the game when travis looked uncomfortable was in the 1st half when you actually got some pressure. He had 1 horrible interception and was lucky he didn't have another. Once the pressure stopped, he was able to create and got in sync and that was that.

And another thing about a 3 man rush besides rarely getting any pressure on the QB (especially a QB that runs well like Travis) if the QB decides to tuck it and run, they usually have a lot of room to escape the pocket and make good yardage.

That was Saban. We scored the go ahead TD in Tiger Stadium and they had a little less than 2 minutes and we sat back in prevent defense with a 3 man rush and AJ McCarron picked them apart with 10-20 yard passes and marched right down the field and scored to win the game.

I wanted to murder Miles and whatever idiot D coordinator that was responsible.

I understand the thinking of dropping 8 to protect a vulnerable secondary, but giving an experienced athlete like Travis time to create is asking for trouble.

yes, exactly, you can't have him back there comfortable like that, getting into some kind of damn rhythm and picking you apart. The defensive game plan was terrible, and I don't know what he was thinking. You have to have that kid under constant pressure by calling blitzes, delayed pass rushes, designed pass rushes, rushing more than 4 on the line sometimes. Just doing whatever's necessary to get him totally out of his game and uncomfortable so that he can make mistakes like throwing Ints or fumbles from sack hits.

Mixing things up is typically a good thing. The problem isn't that we decided to bring 3. It's that we couldn't cover with 8. We still had guys wide open...defenders playing zone and never finding the WR or identifying the routes...just taking up space.
