I think most people have accepted this team isn't going to turn the corner this year. It's been the least fun baseball season in years.

Our expectations were tempered this season. I will say that Hilliard was a pleasant surprise.

I’m not upset about an off year. Our athletes and Mainieri will have this team back in Omaha next year

Nailed it.

Anyone who pays attention to LSU baseball knew before the season started that this was going to be a challenging year, even before all the injuries to key position players and pitchers starting lining up.

Any SEC team can't lose all 3 of its weekend starters, its most productive closer, its center infield, including its catcher, and its only true power hitter and not expect for there to be a drop off.

Mainieri is outstanding at pushing the right buttons as the season goes on but this year, with the injuries, he just ran out of buttons to push.

With a little luck with this year's draft and if all of the injured players return to full strength, we will have a very good season next year.

I don’t even think we need a win in the SEC Tournament to solidify a 3-4 spot

It really didn't take a baseball savant to see that this team had too many holes with injuries, etc to be a serious contender. There was no margin for error. The results don't lie. In some ways it's amazing they did this well and barring the collapses with leads against Ole Miss and USCe they may have still made it.

Pulmonary gets a free pass after 12 years coaching here. Well I give him a D. His bone head decisions cost games. He had a JJ type season

Holy crap you are dumb. If JJ could go .500 in SEC play he would still be our coach.

Yes, he gets a pass this year. We were National Seeds 6 years straight and made the finals last year. We had 6 players drafted in the top 10 rounds last year, our only returning weekend starter was out for the whole season, so was our starting short stop. Duplantis (and Coomes/ Slaughter at 1B) was basically our only returning fielder.

I said in another thread “ they met my expectations” I had them .500 in league and 2 seed in Hattiesburg.

This team was decimated this year with injuries and even going back to last year when we lost Walker. The pitching staff never rounded out like we hoped, and everything fell apart from there. Instead of reloading, we looked and found we didn’t have bullets.
