I just don't understand the O-Line problems. Is it A or B?

Are our O-Linemen simply overrated from a talent perspective, or is it just bad coaching and a poor blocking scheme? Seems that BH6 always has someone in his face when he drops back. Maybe other teams have decided to blitz every likely passing play since he can't seem to handle the pressure and process.

Does Grimes deploy a complicated blocking scheme? Is it so run-oriented that it can't be adjusted to handle blitzes and pressure?

Or is there a C? Someone please explain what's going on.

When DL are untouched running through the line, it's coaching. Not knowing what the hell to do, is coaching. Getting your arse pushed back is the players.

when you run out of the formations that we use you bring extra people into the box. very difficult to consistently block and create space against a 9 man box

The line's problems Saturday had nothing to do with nine in the box. They were whiffing on three rushers at times.

our guys don't seem to understand it so maybe that's it. BUT, it's also that we have some new guys and communication on the line takes time; each player has to know who the other guys are blocking and units that have played together a lot seem to do much better, even if they are not uber talented.

i'm not sure about the coaching but I suspect that Grimes is a better recruiter than a teacher.

im not referring to the problems with pass pro. i would imagine most of the issues with protection come from a lack of practice. probably much more run heavy in practice, not spending time taking pass sets

There is no "or". They are not the quality that we had in years past. Nowhere near.

If this line what ever the starting line up will end up being doesn't gel together you can forget Harris being the problem. We won't have a pray in hell. This line has yet been able to settle in on a starting 5 and that is a big problem.

An offensive line has to be able to play as one. Understand who has to block who under every different scenario there is. Forget the defense lining up 8, 9 in the box. I saw blown assignment after blown assignment Saturday.

The heavy box has something to do with that. the more bodies in the box, the more confusion as to who to block

They looked really slow and unathletic. This could be due to some coaching and them playing slow cause they are confused. I don't understand how a line that returns 3 all-SEC caliber ( projections) lineman could look that bad. The other two starters played several meaningful snaps last year so its not like we had 2 true freshman on the field.

Your best OT is playing C. A position he has no business playing.

Yes.

They couldn't block at Auburn either.

I always thought it was because we were run-oriented so poorly equipped to handle pass rushes, but judging from the game, our run block was not great either.

One thing I noticed was how not in-sync the players are with each other. There's no cohesion among the front; I saw plenty of missed assignments.

Well with a DC that came from there you would think that our offense would have been ready for it plus the fact we played against Aranda once before.

I don't know, but it's really depressing when you think about the fact that Les Miles was an offensive lineman.
