Football season is approaching and there is a hell of a lot to be excited about.

Defensively Key will be back and ready to wreak havoc. I'm really looking forward to seeing Devin White as a full time starter. He may turn out to be one of our best LBs ever. There are some great incoming freshmen that will likely get playing time early. Chaisson, Stevens, Delpit and Phillips should see some time on the field.

Offensively you have to be at least somewhat hopeful that Canada can revamp the offense to at least make opponents actually have to gameplan our offense. Guice, a healthy Danny Etling, Chark and promising young WRs Anderson and Davis give me a sense of optimism. There will certainly be a learning period and bumps along the way, but for the first time in a while I see the possibility of an offense that puts teams off balance. Before we could beat the teams that we outmatched physically. Now we have the opportunity to beat teams with scheme that are physically our equal or better.

Regardless what you think about the HC, there is a lot to look forward to this season. The "football" talk on here has nothing to do with football at all and more to do with the feelings about the HC.

Don't worry, there's plenty time between now and the BYU game for people to spew dumb shite. You'll get your fill.

I am cautiously optimistic but I am by nature not a very cynical person. I am concerned about the QB position as we have said every year since 2007. I fully expect growing pains for this team early.

Orgeron has to prove he can win here before anyone can get excited. Not exactly something to be optimistic over considering he was a complete failure at his previous HC job and both teams that we played with a pulse beat our offense down badly. His offense might've looked as bad as the NC game against Bama until they pulled away in the 4th. Then you still have...Etling as your QB. Yeah, easy to see why not a lot to be excited about. Miles needed to go but Orgeron is not someone to be optimistic about. He has to prove he's capable first then the excitement will spill in past that point. In his defense, that wasn't his system in place. Now he has no excuse all the cards are on the table he just needs to win and nobody will care about the past.

I'm personally thinking this team will need 2-3 years before we can reach a really high level. 2-3 recruiting classes under Orgeron to get who he wants and by that time the young QBs should've developed. If they can do surpass those expectations all the better. Until then, I'm expecting 3-4 loss seasons.

So because tRant disagrees with you, it proves your point?

I can still remember how disappointed I was when I heard that Ole Miss had fired Orgeron.

I get the spirit of what the OP is saying, but I'm not one that can just turn off my brain and not see who we have at head coach.

I suppose that I feel that the very best version of what I think Orgeron can be is still not good enough to beat Saban and win the SEC. Maybe it turns out that I'm completely off in my assessment of O. If I am off that would be the best thing in the world, because sports is at its best when its characters overperform their expectations.

Vegas set the o/u wins at 9.

It doused fanatic delusion before practice started.

No upper tier qb.
Key is not on the field.
New offense being installed, first full year.

Bama L

No because the theme of the post was the positives of the upcoming season and a hope that thoughts about the HC wouldn't override that. That's what's telling about the downvotes. Not a big deal. Amusing and somewhat sad.

I get the apprehension. I have it as well. Jimbo was my first choice, but it became clear he was playing us. I'm not delusional to O's track record. I do however, believe it's possible that the combination of lessons learned, the right opportunity, at the right time can make a difference. Is that the case with O here? I have no idea, but I'm willing to take a wait and see approach.

I do believe that with our current staff as a whole we at worst will fare no better than we have the last few years. At best? IDK

I agree with Deuce...Until Orgeron can prove he can beat quality teams, and not cupcakes, I'd push the pause button on thinking LSU will be anything but Cap One bowl champs

Well you know when a coach with a 3-21 record in the SEC his hired there is going to be some disgruntled folks.
