Apparently the excuse is that we can't even master our basic offense, but when you've got a Russell Shepard it should have been one of the FIRST things instituted, i.e. a PART of the basic offense.

I heard miles answer the question why they have not run the wildcat last week. I will paraphrase his answer.

We have a want to run the wildcat, but when the opposing team will not respect the pass from that formation they can load the box against the run.

Not exact but pretty close to what he said.

We have run exactly 1 wildcat play this season. Last year, we ran only a couple of wildcat plays. We put Shepard at QB many times, but we didn't run the wildcat but once or twice. A QB sweep, or a QB iso is not the wildcat.

somebody brought it up last night on his show. he basically said they have a few plays that allows shepard to throw it. the situation hasn't presented itself yet.

To which I would have replied "that's true for other teams as well, and the formation still works much of the time, and very few of them have a Russell Shepard-type player."

That's pretty much what I was thinking. You could also throw the ball out of that formation a few times. That might have an affect on how the defense lines up against the formation.

A pass from the Wildcat is basically a trick play option from that formation. It's design is essentially to put a hat on a hat, and the runner theoretically only has one tackler to shake. So I don't understand the answer that Miles gives regarding that defenses would be able to focus on the formation because of a lack of ability to pass from that formation.

Not to mention spencer ware as well.

Do opposing teams respect the pass in any other formation when Jefferson is in the game? Huh Les?

3 of 10 - 30 yards 2 INT

yeah...the threat of a pass isn't really there for almost every other wildcat

has ingram ever thrown it? maybe once

Maze last week
McFadden
McCluster
Ronnie Brown
Fred Jackson
etc. etc.

but RS is an inferior passer to all of them apparently, so much so hes incapable of running the WildCat 2-3 times a game.

I'm pretty sure Ingram has at least 1 TD pass.

ETA: ESPN.com shows no passing stats for Ingram

Ingram simply bowls over people in the wildcat. Shepard ain't a power back. Ware would be better for that scenario.

Miles is as worthless as tits on a boar hog. He has no common sense or logic. He'd rather run a bad play 100 times to try and get it fixed, than try and run a new play that would probably have a high % rate at being successful.
