I admittedly am a Spread guy. I love watching it, reading about different schemes how coaches make their own adaptation of it. Guys like Urban, Rich Rod, Chip, and even Air Raid innovator Mike Leach are so intriguing to follow. So when I sit down and watch LSU come out in I Form Rt, I Form Lt, Twins, Tight, etc. it is so frustrating to watch an offense's talent being underutilized. Once you're in the I, you're declaring you are in a run or pass. In the Spread there are a multitude of options a defense can expect you doing in just one formation.

No real point is guess, just a rant saying I cannot stand archaic football being played with one the most talented offense's in the country.

Agreed look at what Alabama did with Jalen Hurts. Lane knew he would struggle passing so he put him in opportune situations. Read Options, QB Power out of empty formations. It was honestly beautiful to watch.

There's a time and place to run power formations, but the times of running it exclusively have long passed by.

I don't mind the I because I love having a lead blocker for LF. But we should change it is some.

If Harris is supposed to be a duel threat run the option at times

Run some quick slants or maybe the TE underneath

It really feels like all of the places a written down before the game and they just call those plays no matter what.

You can have the lead blocker from the spread. see Herman, Clemson, et al.

Jim Harbaugh runs I formation just fine. Nothing wrong with the formation if there is a competent person running it.

Yes, the TE is in the wing and can become a lead blocker. You also have blocking schemes like Buck and G where you have guards pulling toward a specific gap. Most of these run option system are the I formation out of the Spread.

The difference with Harbaugh is he recruits Pro Style QBs to run a Pro Style offense. What did Harbaugh do when he had a dual threat (Kap). He ran him out of the pistol. Here at LSU we recruit dual threat QBs and force them to do something that they've never done, hoping that they would be successful.
