How should we slow down the pressure on our QB?

It's common knowledge that there are many ways to slow down a pass rush on your QB.

There are ways to make a defense pay for applying tremendous pressure on your QB.

* Draw plays
* Screen passes
* Quick passes to your FB (like the UGA TD)
* Throwing the ball away. Come on Man! Did you scream too?

I hope Coach Crowton can coach & implement some of these before we take more unnecessary sacks.

Good observations. However, the sacks yesterday appeared to be coverage sacks. JJ had enough time to pass most of the time and couldn't find an open receiver. Hey, I'll take a sack over a pick 6 any ol' day. JJ was something like 16 for 27. I counted 4 dropped passes. I'd say that's a pretty good passing percentage. He had a crucial 30 yard scramble on a TD drive. I mean, anyone criticizing JJ (not saying you are, but others have) are complete idiots. When you consider he's a relatively new starter and is still learning, I'd say JJ's play is nothing short of outstanding. When you step back and look at what he did under pressure yesterday, in a hostile stadium, late in the 4th quarter ... wow.

I don't know why we stopped rolling JJ out in the second half. Poor guy was a sitting duck in the second half.

When JJ sees more than 4 guys rushing, he has to get rid of the ball....other than that the 19yr old played a pretty solid game.

Probably the most obvious answer but I do have to agree they need to block better.

I don't remember many 1st half rollouts, but I was def. gonna add some rollout passes to the list.

Still seems like his drop is too deep and the edge guys have an easier route to get to him. The other thing is, he doesn't just step up to avoid the rush and/or throw. If he has to step up, he takes his eyes down and is looking to get out. I think this will improve with experience.

JJ will learn how to keep his "internal clock" for how long he should hold the ball. He will get better at throwing the ball away when there isn't an open receiver. It's part of being a young qb.

If I was coaching and after screens, draws, quick passes (jordan wasn't executing the 3 step drop...its supposed to be 1, 2, 3, throw...not 1,2,3,4,5,6,sack) pressure was still up the middle I would go 2 tight and try to double the DT's when throwing the ball. People are dumping on JJ but he doesn't even have enough time to look at more than 1 rec most of the time. he's got someone on his left, coming from behind him, coming from the left or right.

Teach Scott and Williams how to pick up a block.

I don't think we can afford to come out in 5 wide with our o-line not having a RB to help block at the very least

The OL isn't doing a bad job, JJ just has to learn to make his reads faster and get rid of the ball faster.

Not sure why we don't run draw plays, or throw the ball away.

I hope he learns before Saturday.....

I'm sure the UF coaches were licking their chops watching him. Spikes will eat our lunch on blitzes if we don't protect or use misdirection on them.

How about a short dump off pass to Dickson or Scott if everyone is covered? We used to have that play often, wide open to Hester.

Watch film of Chase Daniel.
He makes a decision in about .5 seconds

I think the ball needs to be released when a receiver is open. Saw Dickson open... had a step dragging across 15 yards down field. JJ got sacked on that play. That was NOT a hot read that was open... that was the tight end 15 yards down field. He's holding it too long, but he is young and will get better. 3-4 of those sacks were JJ holding on too long. That said, I like that we seem to be improving and on our way to peaking at the right time.

If someone is going to take time watching film to improve, I'd suggest they start with QBs like Brees, Brady, Manning, etc.
