How many third and longs (Over 7 yards) have we given up?

Is there any way to figure this out and do they keep stats on this like in the NFL? It seems to me to be a freaking ton this year. I would love to see comparison from this year to last and where we would rank in SEC on this. Does anyone have that? Taht seems to be real difference this yaer to me but Maybe it just seems that way as you remember the 3rd and longs they get so well.

No, 14 is the total number of 1st downs LSU has given up on 3rd down plays.
LSU has given up 9 first downs on 3rd and 7+ yards, all on passing plays. Opponents have been in a 3rd & 7+ yard position 29 times (23 passing attempts, 6 rushing attempts).
That's a 31% success rate against LSU on 3rd and 7+ yards.
I'm no dawg fan, but since they are your next opponent, I looked them up as well. They've given up 9 1st downs on 44 attempts where the situation was 3rd & 7+ yards. That's a 19% success rate.
By comparison, Florida (my team) has given up 4 out of 31 attempts, a 13% success rate for their opponents in this situation. I wish that I could say this is all because of Florida's defense, but UF's opponents have dropped an amazing number of 3rd and long passes when no defender was close to them.

Going into last week, LSU was 8th in the SEC in 3rd down defense. Georgia was 1st in 3rd down conversions.

I'd also be interested to know how many 20+-yard plays we've given up, and how that compares to other teams. I suppose the stat and the comparison are out there somewhere in Computerland. Anyway, it seems to me we give up more than our share of big yardage plays—whether it's first down, second or third. And it seems to me we've been doing this for years now. This is just my perception and I could be wrong; lacking data I can't say for sure. And this is not a whiner complaint—God knows with the success we've had over the last four years, I ain't complaining. Just making an observation—and wondering if it's statistically valid.

Well, I can't speak for total plays over 20 yards, but LSU has given up 20 passing plays of 15+ yards, and 4 rushing plays of 20+ yards.
Georgia has given up 33 passing plays of 15+ yards, and 1 rushing play for 20+ yards.
Georgia has played 7 games. Florida and LSU have played 6.
Florida has given up 21 passing plays of 15+ yards, and 3 rushing plays of 20+ yards.

Thanks for the info and the Web site. Apparently, wearing P&G glasses causes me to sometimes see things worse than they are. In any event, I'm surprised to learn that we're averaging the same number of big-yardage plays per game as y'all are. I guess the next questions are yards per play, # of TDs resulting from, etc. Maybe I'll hunt for them sometime.

We had this problem last year also. Much of the problem stems from our substitution patterns. For some reason Pellini and now Peveto/Mallory insist on bringing in extra safeties in our nickle and dime packages as opposed to extra CB's. Our opponents know this and always seem to go to one of their WR's that are matched up with our safeties. And our safeties, while not bad against the pass as far safeties go are not CB's......Needless to say this has bothered me for a year and half.
