You know, I'm very proud of LSU's baseball tradition, but I was talking with a friend of mine and we were equating what the baseball program gets us in terms of what even a mediocre basketball program would stir up. I know it's apples and oranges, but he said he'd trade all of our baseball titles for two basketball championships, and went on to say that the economic impact of making the Final Four in basketball is probably more than all the baseball titles combined.

I kind of agreed with him. What would the Rant say?

See, I don't know. All the Todd Walkers and Ben Macdonalds and Ryan Theriots don't get anywhere what attention Shaq gets LSU, but I mean he's probably far and away bigger than any alum athlete we've ever had. But even Big Baby and Tyrus Thomas get more attention than probably all former LSU baseball players who've started on MLB teams combined.

I wouldnt trade any of them but i'm a little biased because i'm a baseball fan. I think the baseball titles bring us enough recognition, not as much as a basketball would, but enough

I could do without the basketball program to be honest.

I don't care about economic impact when it comes to my school winning national titles. I think basketball is a lame 1-dimensional sport personally, I follow LSU basketball, the NCAA tourney, and that's it.

Hey look, I love baseball. But college baseball doesn't even have it's own section on ESPN.com. Will it ever get it's rightful place in media coverage? I can only hope so. Until then, UConn's men and women winning a basketball championship in the same year is a bigger sports media story than LSU winning an unprecedented sixth national title in baseball. It's sad but true.

Probably just late and I'm not thinking, but what do you mean by "1-dimensional"? What is the 1 dimension of college basketball?

yea I understand the media angle, but as far as I am concerned I like baseball more and don't care about basketball. LSU gets enough national attention from football and the difference between 1 and 2 is so much greater than 2-5.

If baseball won the next 2 championships I would be extremely happy, but it would only measure up to winning 5 in 10 years. If basketball won a championship, I would be going crazy, because we've never won one and the recognition that winning not only a final 4 but the championship game would insane! Let's hope they do it when the final 4 is in new orleans!!!

this isn't a fair topic. LSU is a baseball school and to compare it to our basketball program, despite the current season is unfair to both teams

Some of you people are really insane. You talk like LSU would finally make the news if we won a basketball championship. I think LSU does just fine when it comes to national recognition. You bitch and moan about the media, then you care what the media thinks. Is there any other school out there that asks these assanine questions?....like trading so many championships in one sport for another? And since this CAN'T be done....why the frick would you want to give any LSU NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP away?

Tell you what....why don't you go tell any of the baseball players who have played on any of LSU's National Championship Teams that you would like to do this....and please post when and where you will tell them, cuz I wanna be there to see what happens....

To even THINK this stupid shite belittles any player who has ever put on a LSU Baseball uniform. And if you think not, then you're dumb as dirt.

If you had a son or daughter who played baseball or softball...would you tell THEM this shite? It's amazing just how frickin stupid and selfish people are...

This shite is just frickin stupid!

calm down, its not that big of a deal.

besides the basketball fans need something to make them feel better.

All of them will sit here and talk about how they would like to see the basketball team win one over the baseball team, yet the baseball outdraws the basketball games.

go support the team if you want to see them win that bad that you would trade a championship in another sport
