I'll set the over/under at 2.5 years. I say under.

Why does everyone assume that a great pro player will automatically be a great college coach?

Was thinking the same thing. I always think of Nebraska football in this type of situation.

He's an extremely smart defensive mind from what I've heard other NFL coaches say about him over the years.

I don't think anyone assumes that every great pro would make a great coach. But Ryan Clark has publicly stated his interest in getting into coaching after his career is over, so it's safe to assume it's something that he's interested in.

That sh*t would be nice. Especially with the new recruiting rules, he could really lock down the boot.

I think ESPN or the NFL Network might pay him more.

put him on the scouting staff for $150K annually to start off, and watch his coaching career take off after that.

This. dick lebeau called out Ryan Clark specifically in his HOF address saying he was one of the smartest players he's every coached.

Some of the worst teachers are the smartest. It's not about what you know, it's about how well you can explain it on the fly to a 20 year old kid.

He can make so much more money working for ESPN or NFL Network. Given his health issues, I expect he'll go this route. It'll also give him more time to raise money for sickle cell research.

Even though he has said:
1. He wants to go into coaching after his NFL career
2. And he would like for it to be at LSU?

That's not exactly what he said. It's an option for him.

quote:

Whether or not he wants to be a coach when his career is over:

"What's crazy is he always talks about hiring me when I'm done which is the same thing that Coach Saban talked about when I finished at LSU and the same thing my school coach talked about when I graduated high school. It's just something, it seems like the people who have been put in my life as far as football goes feel like, I'm supposed to do when I'm done."

Why he thinks his former coaches think he would make a good coach:

"I think because I'm a cerebral football player. Not being the biggest, fastest, or strongest, that was the way I got by. Just play extremely hard and be in the right place. I'm also pretty good at communicating what I do know. Lots of people know stuff but can't communicate it to others in a way that they can understand it and implement it into what they're doing. I have that gift and I was blessed to have that talent. Coaching in the NFL is tough. Move around a lot, not a lot of stability, and I've said this many times in joking with a lot of people that I wanted to be the first black head coach at LSU. I think that would be a tremendous honor, it would be my alma mater, it's really important to me that the school does well and also be a part of history of that school would be awesome. There's just so much movement and things that go on with coaching. I always thought about high school because I'm family guy and just being able to be with my family constantly. Just something you think about and I've been so blessed to make more money than I ever thought I would and it's giving me options I didn't know I would have."

But he would have to live in or near Connecticut. If he were to land in La, at LSU, he would be bear his family in NOLA.

Depends on what he wants to do. Most of the guys doing NFL weekend shows like Jackson, Faulk, Sanders, etc., don't live near ESPN or NFL Network. They fly in for the weekend.

Coaching requires ungodly hours and is unstable work. I don't think it's a given that he wants to do that. He even admitted as much.

Wish him the best whatever he does.
