if he continues to make homerun coordinator hires (and stays out of their way) he will be here until he retires.

Orgeron literally talked his way into the job on the promise to Alleva that he would not coach the offense or defense.
If you are going to win the sec, you have to have elite coaches. There are several sec teams with equal talent to LSU. One with superior talent.
He NEEDS elite coordinators to win CHAMPIONSHIPS which is the only standard to judge him by.
If he doesn't win the SEC within 4 years, he should be fired...along with Alleva.

Sadly no other team would have made the hire and if one did the entire rant would have laughed their arses off about it.

How do you "turn into" a Saban/Harbaugh type? You either are or you aren't. O isn't.
I don't remember Nick Saban being a "Nick Saban-type guy" when he was at Michigan State--he lost FIVE or more games in 4 of his 5 five seasons there. And Bear Bryant wasn't a "Bear Bryant-type guy" when he was at Texas A&M or Kentucky (he lost/tied three games or more in 11 out of 13 seasons before going to Alabama). The point is, sometimes even great coaches need time to learn, mature, and grow into their role. They also need to "click" with the right fit at the right time. Now, I'm not saying that Coach O is a Saban or Bryant, but it's simply not true that all the great coaches are just dominant from the get-go.

Coach O told me he would stay until the end of the third quarter, like most Tiger fans.

Wrong. I think we have learned many times over that you can have all the talent in the world but without good coaching it ain't worth a shite.

I didn't say Nick Saban was great from the beginning. But Nick Saban in 2000 was a better coach than O is right now. He had to get better to be the guy he is now.
What are the odds that O can ever catch up? He doesn't have enough years in coaching left to do it. I don't think he'll ever be as good as Saban was when he was at Michigan St. He damn sure isn't going to do it in 3 years or so.

quote:So tired of this question. So what he wasn't a hot commodity. The man has the job now. If you're still on here bitching about the hire with the season only a week away, go find you another team to watch. Nobody has time for that anymore
Hiring a journeyman DL coach as LSU's head coach was a huge leap. Ask your self what other SEC school would've hired O?

The fact remains, we had a chance to make a logical hire and we didn't.

Until he is fired for not meeting Rant expectations?

Those who think Alleva's biggest error was the decision to hire The Orgeron haven't taken the time to carefully read the contract terms that Alleva approved for that hire and the termination/ buyout clauses. The contact was at least as much AD malpractice as the hiring decision itself (yes, I know these are closely related issues)
No doubt. A $12m buyout for a completely unproven coach is ridiculous.

Coach O will go down in history as the GOAT college HC. He will win 10 NCs here at LSU.

I feel pretty good with him at the helm to be honest.
I do too and for no particular reason. Prolly a combination of things.....new hires, new season, optimism, and the willingness to believe he's changed since Ol Miss....some thing Miles lovers can't come to grips with.

The board has been trying to decline LSU recruiting for the last ten years ,it is hard to beat bama with some of our our best 5 star recruits going to bama to back up their officials . The truth is Coach MIles did a wonderful job despite the nega tigers !
