Exactly. Baby steps at this point when we have lost three of our last four bowl games.

This is my feeling about the award. Sure it means a lot to win it, but it really isn't a fair award because it compares apples to oranges.
Heck I kind of wish they had two Heisman awards each year for offense and defense.
Just take a look at past winners. Sure...early on many/most of those guys were potentially going both ways, but that hasn't been the case for 50 years.

Since 1964, the award has been split almost down the middle between QB's and RB's...with 2 WR's thrown in there who also made their mark on spacial teams as return guys, other wise they'd have been left off. The only defensive player in 50 years to win the award is Charles Woodson in 1997. He is, essentially, the only exclusively player defensive player to win the award. That alone makes it a joke.
I mean, it's pretty and all and would look sweet on the mantle, but in terms of meaning...eh.

Less important than championships obviously but it would be awesome

Not as much as Championships

I for one would love to see it. I think Fournette could be that guy!

Not important to me at all, but I have, at times, wondered if our lack of promoting Heisman "candidacies" hurts us in recruiting.
Not sure if it does. Just saying.
I will say this though. I'm not a "star gazer", recruiting expert, or someone that every single year screams about the next "greatest running back of all time" or whatever. Seems like every year, there's someone that we JUST HAVE TO GET OR THE SKY WILL FALL. Every year. I just don't get too fired up over kids who have never taken a snap in college. But with that said, I do believe that LF will be the best running back to ever come out of the state of Louisiana, or LSU (wasn't Alexander from Texas?). Think about all the great ones we've had. That is a long long list. I really do believe that Fournette will be better than anyone we've ever sent up.

Heisman winner USUALLY comes from a top 5 team, so in that regard, I am all for it

for real, its a given your team is great with a heisman winner.

Once Jennings retires we will be ready for some other school to have a chance at the heisman
Posted on 12/9/13 at 4:59 pm to Chad504boy
Well it's not important, but I'd love to see one or 2 in my lifetime.
Jennings and Fournette (counting my chickens), give us the best chance f that happening very soon and Voorhies could play both offense and defense and do well.

Winning a Heisman is not important to me, and I'll stick to that story until we win one.
Posted on 12/9/13 at 5:19 pm to Datbayoubengal
Absolutely of no importance whatsoever.

I've had zero interest since it became a ESPN talking point/agenda driven contest
Just don't care whatsoever

Cool but not important. Heisman is usually a player with rediculous stats but the team usually under performs, I said usually. And not many heismans have ever had success at the next level.

I'd rather a Chik-Fil-A Bowl win than a Heisman trophy winner. That's how important it is to me.

This view is based mostly on my belief that it's a stupid award that states it's awarding the most valuable player, but that really awards the QB/RB with the most gaudy stats on a higher profile team in nearly all cases. If they REALLY DID award the most valuable player in college football, regardless of position and regardless of the prestige of the team he was on, I'd care more about it.
QB is by far the single most important position in football today so unless some RB just goes off it should go to a QB every year. Also, a Heisman caliber QB is going to win the vast majority of their games to they will be on a good team. Having a player win the Heisman award isn't that important to me but I sure would like to have a Heisman quality QB at LSU.
