Moon Griffon would have been equal to Hi C had he not had knee surgery his jr or sr year. He played center on off or def not Hi C and could score from outside.

Moon was very good as well, but I don't think he would have been as good as Carter without his knee injury ... guess we'll never know though. I remember Hi-C playing Center with Moon at PF, but I could be wrong (hell, that was 30+ years ago). I know Hi-C always jumped for the tip-off and typically had the opposing team's center guarding him.

Moon played at Plaquemine for a year or two before Redemptorist. I remember him scoring nearly 40 points in 1st half of game and thinking a record would be broken. Keith Richard is coaching at ULM. He and Moon both played at NLU together in the early 80s.

Cant say for sure and dont want to sound nieve but dont think Howard was into drugs in HS so my guess is jumping ability. It is my understanding that he went to rehab after graduation from LSU

Howard was the best high school player IMO I ever saw until Randy Livingston. I played with him on the aau circuit a long time ago. He was unstoppable when he got it going. Moon Griffin was good but he was never in Howard's league. As far as the Lyles boys go Ted was the Basketball player in that family not Dale, he was a baseball player. I remember playing in an alumni game CHS-RHS like in 1985 and it was a war. The gym was packed just like the days when we would play them in that cracker box at RHS. We will never see a rivalry in BR like that ever. CHS won by like 3 in front of packed house and the RHS guys wouldn't even shake our hands..the CHS-RHS rival was unbelievable during the 70's-early 80's high school bb in br has never been like that since, thanks to the busing. Hi-C was great

Howard was the best high school player I ever saw. He was state MVP as a sophomore.

Not totally true--Ted was the scorer. Dale was the better defensive player. I played on the team and was a junior when the Lyles brothers were seniors. You didn't want Dale guarding you. He could shut down a point guard as well as anyone I've ever seen in high school ball.

A bit of a stretch--I played in three alumni games including a couple of years before when RHS won at Catholic. I can assure you that there was no plan for us not to shake hands. We were probably too tired to realize that we were supposed to.

Maybe so it took me a week to recover, I just remember the intensity, ya'll scored first and picked up man to man all over the court. I remember thinking these guys ain't here for play, it's on. It was a blast. Those were the days and it ashame the state of RHS today. Our kids will never see days like that. Father Ply, Huck, Duhe, the Mansurs those guys were great for high school sports in those days. You must have played against Brent Boyd who had the prettiest jump shot I ever saw. The RHS-CHS rivalry had to be one of the greatest high school rivalries in BB ever. Everyone who played RHS or CHS wanted to beat us and we played in front of packed houses everywhere we went. KIds these days have no idea what they are missing because the public schools are so screwed up. By the way Keith Richard needs to be on the list, that cat could play. Man that was fun. Anyway HI C was great.
