IMHO, he's a system QB, who foumd the perfect fit for him at Oregon. He wouldn't be nearly as effective of a qb if it wasn't for the majority of his passes coming off the read PA.

Well maybe if we ask nicely Chip Kelly will implement a new offense just so we can see what Thomas is like outside his tailor-made system. What do you think?

He got Oregon to the NC, I'd say that's pretty good.

I have no good idea he is, whether it's the system, the fast face, whatever.......This game scares the shite out of me.

We came a gnats arse from getting beat by a really depleted NC team in last year's opener. Their offense, IMO, doesn't have to "jell" like some other offenses. Sure they'll be better at game 6, but plenty good enough to beat us in game 1 if our defense isn't as good as advertised.

I'm a positiger all the way, even down to JJ, and ESPECIALLY when it comes to CLM. All that said, their offense is plenty plenty good. The one thing I'm feeling ok about right now is seeing how Auburn's defense handled them. We SHOULD be able to do about the same, but in game 1's, alot of bets are off.

Personally I think of him in the same light as tyrod taylor but better equipped with spread offense personnel.

On that note, I do think that this years LSU team is the best prepared to stop a spread offense as I have ever seen. Our team speed, and DB situation is made for a spread offense. I predict he will have a bad game, but overall will be remembered as a solid quarterback, in the same mold as Eric Couch(minus Heisman) or Matt Jones. He will try to play a different position at next level.

I may be biased here but I think he's done excellent considering he was a sophomore last year. Even in the NC when he threw 2 INTs early on he went on to throw 2 TDs later on when he could have easily remained rattled and throw 2 or 3 more INTs. He has plenty of work to do to improve to be sure but I thought he responded well to the mistakes he made early. Oregon was in it until the very end.

As for the Auburn D doing well against Oregon, this is obviously true with how Fairley did. That said, Auburn's D was also very well prepared for the no huddle seeing as though Auburn also ran the same thing on offense (conversely, Oregon's D was fairly effective in shutting down Cam for the same reason in my opinion). I think LSU will have to be prepared for that pace as well but they certainly have the personnel to be effective against Oregon.

I would disagree with you about DT, I think he's a better passer than runner. Last year we were a bit short on WRs and besides the running game was going pretty well last year. So he really didn't get to throw as much as I expect him to do this year. Yep, I suspect Oregon will be more of a passing team this year.

I actually disagree with you. DT was good enough to get the job done and was CERTAINLY a better passer than Masoli was when he was running the offense (though Masoli was a far better runner obviously). With that said, I think Jeff Maehl, Drew Davis, and David Paulson bailed him out quite a bit at times when he could have thrown better. That worries me a bit with Maehl and Davis gone now since all we have for experience at WR is Tuinei (we utilized Huff more in the running game but I hope he gets involved in the passing game more), though we are WAY deeper at TE now than last year so I expect we'll use them much more this year. We have incredible talent coming in at WR with this recruiting class but they will obviously not be experienced going against LSU and we may end up having to rely on some of them....

I think the Oregon poster believes Jefferson plays on the Tiger defense. Why else would this be posted?

If Crowton was still running the offense he'd probably score more points playing defense.

Remember we had Crowton at one time. Horrible OC!!!

If Darron Thomas is playing on top of his game, he is extremely dangerous. He makes alot of risky passes against his body and across the field, but it seems they work out more times than not for him. The key to stopping him would be staying disciplined in the secondary even on the backside of the play, but that's easier said than done.

He will be runnin, but a planned run. He will roll out and look for the pitch, or the open receiver, or the hole for himself. There are times when he just stays back in the shotgun and passes, but they are always quick things. If no one is blocked, they still couldn't get to him in time. Now he does run into trouble if all his primary receivers are covered, but on the quick ones, that is not usually a problem. On longer passes, he doesn't usually just sit in the pocket, he is on the move and is looking for the opening, either for himself or the outlet back.

He can forget sitting in the pocket Sam and Mingo will have him running for his life, He will throw for 140 yds and 1 td, get bottled up and have a long day wont rush for much 60 yds maybe, James rushes for 44 yds and a td. final score 35 to 17 LSU

If we are in attack mode, we usually have guys getting to the qb before the receivers can get off the LOS. My concern is that sometimes Chavis likes to sit back and play assignment football agalnst spread teams.

Actually, that sounds pretty smart against the spread. The spread is all about getting mismatches and speed against not quite as good speed. It's when teams gamble and get caught that the ball ends up in the end zone quickly.

I think LSU will be ready for the Ducks attack. AU won the BCS NC game by controlling the LoS on both sides of the ball, almost 150 yards rushing, while holding the Ducks to 75 yards. LSU will and always does have a DL that is just as good and quick as AU's DL was last year. That game winner could be the preview of the 2012 BCS NC game winner. Big key will be how well the Ducks D can fill the holes from loses of key players last year and handle the LSU running game. It will be a very good game.
