I feel like you can already count Byrd in that group. Think he is going to be a solid player. Mainieri recruited well. Just can't keep them all, especially with his and LSUs standards.

If it was just pointing out how good former Tigers were doing, then cool. I try to root for ex-LSU guys unless they make sure to burn bridges out of town. I just found asking how this team would be different so early in the season odd, more so given the early success.

I will concede that given your post history, I took this thread as a bash on Coach PM for running off talented players, which I think would be unfair given that he replaces talent with talent.

I am all for former Tigers having success, but I contend that our current team "at the moment" is fine without any of them. That could change just as quickly as any of them going on a slump and their numbers coming back down to middle of the pack.

Exactly. You can't expect to keep them all. It's a normal thing in the world of 35-man rosters and 27-man limit SEC. I'm only saying that this is interesting.

I even said he did a wonderful job replacing them with good players. Freeman, Valek, Romero. All 3 take the spot of 1 of those 6 guys.

Also, if I wanted to bash PM, I would have started a thread on Dakota alone and him giving up on Dean so quickly making comparisons to Dawson.

I'm surprised dean didn't get more of an opportunity here. I really thought he was going to be the next star here.

I was surprised godfrey quit, thought that was a big loss that more pf our fans would have been upset about. Losing players of he and byrds quality was worrisome

I like seeing how these guys do after the leave LSU. Thanks for putting this together.

The only guy I really wanted to stick around was Godfrey. And that's really because I felt like he could develop into a 3rd or 4th starter this year and be a weekend guy next year. But who knows if he would have been given enough innings to do that. He can get the innings at JUCO, which it looks like he is. There had to have been something to work through though because he didn't pitch for like the first 3 weeks of the season.

Another guy that I wish we could have gotten on campus was Ryan January. It's not LSU's fault he's not on campus, but he's absolutely crushing it in JUCO right now. And I think he's a guy that reclassified, so he should be a HS senior this year. I don't know if we're still recruiting him, but I don't think it will matter. He's a draft guy I'm pretty sure.

ETA: I was tracking Zardon early in his season because it started a couple weeks before LSU's did. He had like 5 errors in his first 3 games.

He was only here for one year and wasn't anything special. he was also nowhere near the type of recruit and talent that Trey Dawson is. Dawson will get his opportunities later this year I believe. He could be your starting third baseman by halfway through the sec season. I think the game was just moving to fast for him but his talent and ability will eventually get him in the field.

He's got 6 total now... He's improving!!!

ETA: I also saw that Godfrey didn't pitch early. I couldn't find the stats at first on the team's website so I went looking through game by game. Did you see how early they started their season?! Last week in January.

It's definitely not my intent to send the thread in that direction. I was only joking by bringing it up.

My comparison would be the 0-11 start each had. And I find it hilarious that PM says one thing about the kid and does something completely different. First, he told us it won't matter early if Dawson doesn't hit. His defense is that good. That lasted two games... 7 ABs. Then he said that Dawson was the first guy off the bench backing up KRob and Lochridge. Oh, Hi Reid. And it's obvious that Dawson isn't ready. Neither was Dean. So they're both "projects" as Russian put it. Think of it this way... If KRob is our only IF leaving next year (draft), and we have 3-4 infield recruits, who does Pm show the door?

I don't disagree with the moves. I think they were the right ones. I just laugh at PM telling the media one thing but obviously having a completely different opinion of the kid.

It's weird considering he has a reputation of calling certain players out. I could be wrong because I don't know hum but it seems to tell me that Dawson doesn't handle criticism well and is one of those guys he can't do that to. That is not neccesarily a bad thing just that CPM is handling him right and easing him into the college life. CPM get a lot of flack for being honest but he only calls the ones out that he thinks can take it. Reid looks good and obviously has shown more at practice considering even before Lochridge got hurt Reid was getting into the games first.

You are assuming PM chooses when to be honest based on what players can handle. Just like I can assume he does it based on players he likes/dislikes.

He had Zardon-like fielding problems. If you cant field then you aren't going to make the every day lineup, unless your bat is great to DH every game. DH is not really a problem we have.

FWIW he's at 3rd for UNO this year and is fielding at just .929 which is pretty bad.

Godfrey is the one I would most want to see on this year's roster.

I wish Godfrey and Byrd were still Tigers.
