oops, hit submit too quick.

something is wrong with this team. our pitchers, many who were here last year have ALL regressed and can't find the strike zone. freshmen start out good and then join the upper classmen after a few games and can't throw a strike and plunk lots of batters. they even fall on the mound.

I have seen an occasional game where the staff can't seem to throw strikes (at any level) and it is not unusual for one pitcher to struggle in a game but the whole staff?

I cringe each and every time we change pitchers. and sure enough the new guy walks the first damn batter and sometimes the first two.

this pitching staff needs immediate "surgery". this kind of failure doesn't just "happen". there is a reason. PM needs to find it out and correct it and now.

Confidence in baseball is everything and it's infectious. When your top guy starts getting rocked it trickles down.

Well the Offense hasn't inspired the pitching.

I agree to a point. esp in hitting. pitching not so much. one guy fricking up on the mound does not affect his replacement; they are trained mentally to get OUT of jams, not create them.

This wasn't a collapse the bullpen didn't get any better since last year it actually got worse.

Maybe it's cause and effect somewhat? Everyone pressing too much maybe. It happens. Overthrowing and pressing at the plate screws mechanics up. Yes that's what coaches are supposed to fix, but not unheard of to go through a stretch like this. 6 runs isn't bad (unless the other team scores more of course), but sometimes when you have an elite defense behind you, pitchers are told to pitch to contact. Unfortunately we don't know if that's the case and they're just getting hit hard and such. What I've seen is very flat with little movement fastballs (outside of Lange) and breaking balls with wayyyyy too much break, which can signify overthrowing. We've also been popping up wayyyyy too much, so either mechanics or a change in BP philosophy. Like hitting a damn breaking ball...

Too bad we have midweek games. The way we have been hitting, an intrasquad would help boost our pitchers' confidence

I agree with what you've said about curve ball batting practice. We get to the games early enough to watch batting practice. During that time, the sloped ramp thats half way to home plate is used. There's no way you can throw a curve ball in that distance, so all they getting is fast balls. During a game, its evident we can't hit a breaking ball!

I thought this thread was about Beck doing his awkward face plant last night in the second inning.....

The pitching probably knows the offense won't get it done this year so they are trying too hard to be perfect

Didn't think UK was turf, and they got rocked and were too scared to throw a strike, period...
I HATE freaking WALKS more than anything...so, I haven't been enjoying these last 4 games, at all...
But, someone said all of this bad stuff is infectious, and they are right...hope we can find the cure before this weekend...

Unfortunately it is correct. Walks and hit by pitch.

It is actually worse than that. 3/4 of those we lost to the home team so they didn't bat in the 9th. 39 in only 33 innings, not 36...
