Houston Chronicle article on renewed LSU-A&M rivalry
Posted by NameWithheld on 2/5/13 at 8:27 am00
I believe this article says a alot of things that many of us have said/heard before. It is interesting to see the way the article spins the recruiting aspect of the rivalry, however. I think it will take a few years to see if this expansion hurts or helps LSU/A&M, but hopefully we will have fun watching the games along the way!
Oh, and which rantard is this???

One thing I hate about the chronicle is their lovefest for A&M

It's out of Houston what do you expect.

You may not like it, but everything the article said is true. There are lots of LSU grads here in Houston, and we have lots of friends and family with A&M ties. The rivalry is a natural one, and has lots of historical precedent.
The worst thing about it for LSU is that it will hurt our recruiting. But the added quality that a good A&M football team will bring to the SEC will make the SEC brand even stronger, and indirectly help LSU.

Ironically most Aggies in Houston complain about the "love fest" for UT and that the Chronicle hates the Aggies
One day we might realize it usually the fans that are biased.

College Station is an hour and a half from Houston. They have every right to be pro A&M. I'm sure the same can be said for the Times-Picayune regarding LSU.

Someone tell Arkansas?
Arkansas...the Fredo of the SEC.

I don't think this is true.
It will help A&M's recruiting and certainly bring them up to the top tier of schools for kids, but I don't see it hurting LSU.
It's just another seat at the big boy table.

exactly. They talk about LSU not getting any Texas guys this year, though Christian LaCouture was at A&M Consolidated when we started recruiting him and only moved to Nebraska after he committed to them, however, we have recruits from Ill, Calif, NC, SC, Tenn and Ga in this class, so even if A&M's emergence keeps LSU from getting some players from Texas, we can go get guys from else where. In 2014 we are in very good shape with a couple of top Texas recruits, so I think 2013 is more an anomoly and not a trend.

I like it. It has a both history and geography to it. I think outside instate rivalryie, border rivalries are the best.

To me, it brings even more publicity for LSU to the state. We beat aTm in Texas this past year. Texas kids see that. The game each year should bring more LSU talk into a state that already sends a ton of kids to LSU.

And the only game they mention is the women's hoops A&M victory over LSU

Dude, frick that. Why do we want to play that game on the Friday after Thanksgiving or worse, Thanksgiving night?

On a selfish note, it would make my "where to spend Thanksgiving" decision a whole lot easier!

On a selfish note it means I will never get to actually go to the game and will limit my where to eat options.

The article says Thanksgiving weekend not Thanksgiving day, also we already play that Friday.

A&M's women's basketball coach talked about recreating the "shootout" it had against UT with LSU. He had a good point. It could create a great multiple-sport rivalry
