he would be wise to not sign a new contract and leverage other offers to get a better deal if he really wants to stay in Houston

They will throw around Tilman Fertita but he cant outbid big programs by himself.
He can compete with them and likely would if they went to the Big12, but with that falling through, he'll probably scale back his "investments" in their AD.
For reference, LSU Athletic's largest single donation from an individual was $20mil and it was willed to them after a donor's death. Tillman Fertitta just dropped that on thier shitty basketball program without blinking. Committing $4mil/year, on top of the other $2-3mil they can get from other sources, for Herman's salary wouldn't be a big deal for him if he wanted to do it.

As noted, Houston's program loses money to the tune of the annual $23M that the university has to put up to keep the athletic dept. afloat. This per an article in the Houston paper last mth. With a 40K seat stadium, the football program will never be able to generate enough revenues to both pay Herman top dollar AND to keep his staff's pay competitive. No way can Houston afford to keep him. As to the comparison between the number of cooks in UT's athletic programs and LSU's, LSU has its share, like any major college program. But UT just has a lot more with lot longer tentacles. Consider that UT's biggest booster came out when Strong was hired & ranted & raved that Strong was not UT type & he, the booster, did not like him. LSU has no one like that, at least publically. That rant made ESPN for 2 days.

Houston attempting contract extension for Herman
That's not the issue. Houston can extend the contract all they want. The no go with the Big 12 was the nail in the coffin for Houston. They are a non factor for Herman now. Texas is who we should be concerned with. They would be the main obstacle for LSU... IMO

Texas has deeper pockets, and Herman has made comments before about how difficult the coaching position at LSU would be with all the pressure that comes with it. (I.E. Political and Fan based pressure.)
Well if he says this while saying it wouldn't be the same if not more pressure at UT he is an idiot and I don't want him as a coach

i hope he signs a ten year deal with houston and i dont have to read about him anymore

That article about Herman to Texas (or USC) is written by a student (Ezra Siegel)at UT. Wonder if he is biased?

They are just going to bump up the buyout, so Houston can get more money back from him leaving. He will do this to help out Houston in the event Texas or LSU wants him, if they really want him they will pay whatever price tag it takes.

Houston attempting contract extension for Herman I have a family member that is a part of coaches contracts for LSU (as far as the process of legal matters entirely, drawing them up, specifics that are put into them such as incentives, etc.) and he says that he has been told that should Herman not sign extension with Houston that it's a 95% chance he ends up at LSU. While Texas is his dream job, the politics and just plain tendencies of the boosters having too much say so as far as the team and how the team is handled/ran doesn't sit well with him or most other coaches that would be interviewed for it in general and that Texas gets turned down more than people know for that reason alone.
This is just a flat out lie.
The legal staff that prepares contracts doesn't make the decisions or negotiations involving the parties.
How is a guy from the West coast with more ties to mid west have a dream job in Austin, Texas?
How would LSU representatives have knowledge of Texas inter workings? Or Hermans personal opinions regarding any other school?
If it was one piece of inside knowledge it could be believable but that's 3 across a wide scope.

If it's between Texas, LSU or USC ,unless the $ is twice as much, Herman goes to USC or LSU. Looking at the whole picture that Texas situation with the boosters and athletic administration is a fricking nightmare to deal with. I guess there is, but it would need to be a shite load of $ (8 or 10 mil)to be the coach of Texas. Doesn't Saban & Urban get around 8 mil now ?

UT will be hard to beat, but they have to fire Strong first and they are running out of time. I am sure we have already contacted Herman or his agent, probably before Miles was fired. I don't have a clue where UT is at in the process.

UT may not be able to risk offering him (publicly) and getting turned down. That might just be head-trash, or real, but if that's the perception then they will do everything they can to seal the deal early and behind the scenes. Which I'm sure Armstrong will advise against. Presumably it the main driver would be "biggest in TX" syndrome. To be publicly turned down by the coach of Houston would be a very big ego stomp for them.
Will LSU have the same mindset? I doubt it seriously. Probably just the opposite. If LSU were to be turned down by Herman, or any hot/big-name coach, they probably want everyone they pursued to the limit.

I think there is virtually no chance he ends up at LSU as long as Texas wants him.
That's is only a factor if Texas fires their HC. Which they haven't done yet.

I think it means they are counter offering, LSU has already offered and they are countering it now..

There have been no talks with Herman or his agent, Yurachek said yesterday. Additionally, Herman has said he wished he could sue people who publish false information about his job status.
9 AM Video: Ryan Clark was on Mike & Mike this morning cheering the Big 12's rejection of Houston as an opportunity for Alleva to open the checkbook and land Herman. LINK Herman was set to receive a salary increase to 5.5 mm/yr and a 5 mm bonus for the Big 12. So that is what you expect he will be offered, regardless. Houston is determined to keep Herman who says he and his wife both love the city and the quality of life there. His contract has a buyout which is null and void if Houston does not keep up with the scheduled facilities upgrades: indoor practice facility, operations building.
“I think it’s going to take a phenomenal - and I mean phenomenal – opportunity for coach Herman to leave the University of Houston,” Yurachek told the radio station.
“We’re committed to making it very hard for him to leave here at this point. Somebody is going to have to come and really take him and offer him something really phenomenal, because we are going to make it really hard for him to say no to the University of Houston.”
Last Night 10/18: UH Officials discussing Herman Contract Extension
Following Tuesday night’s practice, Herman said, “it’s flattering to know your administration believes in you.”
“It gives you renewed energy to go out and coach hard and prepare to win football games,” he added. “But we’re a long ways away from any finalization.”
Herman has said that "If Texas is not the best football state in America I will kiss your arse."

They don't make the decisions, but legally must be informed of everything that goes into the process of legally binding him to LSU and like it or not, they are informed ahead of time of possible situations so that nothing can fall through at the last minute due to contract issues and know every single small little detail that goes into the contracts. Btw, my family member attended UT for undergrad and grad and then LSU for Law and knows at least 2 boosters by my knowledge at UT.
