Honest base coach question..

A lot has been made of the blunders on the base path & the hold/send the runner issues this series. So I pose the question.....why is it ok to have young/inexperienced coaches on the base paths for baseball but not for position coaches in football?
I ask this because there was a lot of back & forth on this topic during the football coaching search.....in particular Kevin Mawae as oline coach. Eventhough his resume is 100 pages long, many rather jave someone with coaching experience get the job. This brings me back to the question:
Why do we allow young/new coaches to be base coaches in baseball? To me this is equivalent to an offensive coordinator in football. You are in charge of pushing the offense to try to score. Wouldn't this be a better spot for the hitting coach?
Not a bash/fire a coach post, just a question.

You can't pay many assistants in college baseball worth a shite, so you are often stuck with this scenario. Not by choice. Outside of Dunn, Mainieri, or Cannizaro, who the hell would coach third?

Canni or midget Mainieri should have their asses on 3rd.

That helps clear it up a little, but wouldn't it make more sense to have one of your high paid guys out there? I guess it's similar to do you want your coordinators on the sideline or the booth in football.
Do you consider shaking up game responsibilities to try to minimize some of the mental errors?

We had an assistant with tons of experience coaching third for a few years anyway, and everyone just wanted that guy fired too.
I'll agree though, I see no reason Cannizaro can't do his job and coach a little third baase.

This team is fricked!!! Normally an optimist, but now a realist. This team is talented but young. Lower your expectations, hope for the best, and look forward to next year.

Since we are a young team, thats why i think it would be a better idea to have one of your more senior coaches on the base paths.

It was a bad move to let an inexperienced guy coach third

there is no such thing as a base coach. the guys manage base runners. no way you can compare him to an offensive coordinator.
"coaching" third is hard. it requires complete and accurate situational awareness including runner speed and arm strength of the defense. when a runner gets thrown out, it should be a close play. when it's not, the coach fricked up or the runner ran through his sign. I have never seen more frickups at 3rd or home in a season as have already occurred this season. something is wrong and it's very frustrating that it appears no effort is being made to fix it.

Of the two Mainieri is the one that makes the most sense. You want Cannizaro in the dugout talking strategy with the hitters coming up.
Of course coaching third will cut down on Paul's face time with David Toms.
