Tackles in Saturday's game are listed.

2020 - Guillory - national #9 DT (3 tackles)

2021 - Smith - national #7 DT (1 tackle)
Ryan - national #3 Safety (6 tackles)
Davis Jr. - national #5 Safety (not on team)
Jackson - national #7 WDE (not on team)
McGhee - national #8 CB (not on team)
Jones - national #10 WDE (3 tackles)

Langlois - national #23 Safety (injured)
Langston - national #29 WDE (did not play)
Carter - national #39 OLB (not on team)
Penn III - national #42 ILB (10 tackles)

2022 - Perkins - national #1 LB (8 tackles)
Wiggins - national #9 DL (did not play)

Welch - national #22 CB (did not play)
Tolan - national #27 LB (not on team)
Allen - national #38 S (1 tackle)

2023 - Womack - national #3 DL (no tackles)
Toviano - national #7 CB (7 tackles)
Weeks - national #8 LB (no tackles)

Howard - national #18 Edge (did not play)
Jackson - national #17 Safety (no tackles)
Yaites - national #21 Safety (1 tackle)
Brathwaite - national #28 LB (no tackles)
Stamps - national #44 CB (no tackles)

Whether it is the players or coaching or both, only Penn III, Perkins, Toviano (for a freshman), and Weeks (when he gets a chance) are playing to or above their rating in my opinion.

The 2021 class that looked great on paper is highly disappointing.

I did not even analyze the transfers, and that is no better or even worse.

This was a long-winded way to show that the defense is terrible. Won't win anything significant until it gets MUCH better.

This might be the best post on here in a very long time. This is exactly why we are at where we are on defense.

Now don’t get me wrong, it’s BKs job to get it fixed and that needs to start with a coach that can coach/scheme to the talent on the roster.

Honestly, there is hope here, especially at DB. Toviano and Welch should be ready to go next season. LB will be strong, especially if Weeks hits the gym hard. DL is a question.

Toviano looked the part saturday. He was probably the only bright spot on D. He was far from perfect, but the potential is there. Welch struggled in his one start and looked like a guy that wasn't fully recovered. I think he had 2 ACL injuries a while back, but should be 100%. Weeks will be very good. Like you mentioned, he needs a little time in the S&C to get stronger so he can shed blocks and hold up at point of contact.

I have said this over and over....

Does LSU have elite defensive talent? NO

Does LSU have the talent on defense, if coached and schemed properly, to have an average to below average defense? ABSOLUTELY.

You could take probably 40-50 other defensive coaching staffs from other D1 schools that would have this defense anywhere between 45-75 out of the 130+ programs.

Sorry, but that is the truth. The talent on this defense is NOT historically bad. Matt House is either a functional retard, or he is purposely throwing games. After putting 9 men on the field for a 4th down, I'm leaning towards him being on the take.

One positive thing to note is that Landon Jackson at Arkansas is the only one of the players that left the team who has recorded significant stats for their new team.

He's probably the only one that would be making a difference were he still here.

Welch will probably never start.

Any reason you didn't list McGlothern in 2020 with a (not on team)?

He was 3-star and #47 CB nationally on 247sports and my cut-off was just above that. He was #20 nationally on 247 composite (which in hindsight I could have used as the rankings to determine 'highly rated'). He obviously is one that is contributing at another school - missed all of October with an injury I assume.

That makes sense. I tend toward the composite rankings simply because I prefer the broader input. Appreciate the work
