They were a 1 seed in 1981, I think they also got that in 1980 but I'm not sure

That would be a #1 seed in 2006...but that was the Lady Tiger Basketball team.

Oh and the men were a #1 in 1981.

#1 in 81. Bob Knight owned Dale Brown in the Final 4.

The Men's and Women's combined Final 4 record is 0-9.

We led that game at the half but Dale kept the team in the locker room so long at half they did not come back on the court in time to warm up for the second half. I've always wondered if that made a diffrence as we couldn't hit the broadside of a barn in that second half.

Gave a much better account of ourselves with a team that had no business within 10 points of Indiana in '87. Dale had a hand in that loss too, but Knight's intimidation of the officials had as much.

Whenever they were together, I was always waiting for a knockdown dragout fight. I recall when Dale had his first grandson, there was a joke going around that Bobby Knight slapped him.

The only difference is that Ohio St football is one of the absolute most wealthy sports programs in the country. LSU basketball has lived on food stamps forever. For that matter, Indiana basketball is funded like UNc and Kentucky.

I will never understand how LSU fans can take shots at Dale. Dale was the only one smart enough to realize you can win big in basketball at LSU. We have done quite well in the last 40 years considering basketball is treated as a pedestrian sport by the athletic dept. and most of the fans.

And for those who say he can't coach....he won more games than any other SEC or Kentucky coach not named Rupp.

I was at the LSU/Indiana game in Philly in '81
and it was like two different teams. They were so hot the first half and came out the second half like someone had taken over their bodies. It was so sad.

My favorite Dale Brown moment was when he threw his coat down at center court (Bama, UK ~ can't remember where) and told the refs they might as well take his coat because they took the game from us. Anyone remember that infamous game?

That would be the same final four game that we led at half despite our star player having a nearly non-usable shooting hand?

The only thing Bob Knight owned was a declasse disposition and a big mouth. Knight made a career of stacking officiating and then claiming he was a great strategist. He was a low-class prick of a human being.

Anyway the travesty of the 1981 tourney was the performance of Dean Smith's team, not LSU.

Seeding didn't start until 1979. LSU has been a #1 twice, 1980 and 1981 --both in the Midwest Regional (I always think of New Orleans when I think of the Midwest )

Since the tourney expanded in 1985 to 64 teams ,the hightest LSU has been has been a 4 seed ,which the Tigers haved done 3 times.LSU was a 4 seed in 1985, 2000 and 2006.

Lexington at the old Memorial Coliseum in 1975.This was one of the early moments in Dale's career when he solidified himself as a colorful,if not infamous character.

In Dale's post game press conference he went on and on about Kentucky's rough if not dirty play. They did have some big ,rough guys on that team, Rick Robey ,Mike Phillips and Bob Guyette to name a few. Billy Reed of the Louisville Courier-Journal asked Dale if LSU's players were all clean players who never cause any unnecessary fouls or injury.

Dale responded with "Let me ask you something. Have you ever masturbated ?" Needless to say the basketball media didn't care for Dale too much after that gem.

Their lone NCAA team ,1989-1990 was a 5 seed. Beat #12 Villanova in the first round 70-63 and lost to #4 seed Georgia Tech ,94-91 in the second round in Knoxville. Southeast Regional was at the Superdome. Tech went on to the Final Four and lost to eventual National Champ UNLV ,whom LSU had given its last lost to.

LINK Here is a link to that press conference. Amazing. (my apologies,it was in Rupp, not Memorial). Dale goes off on Kentucky, their fans, Florida's old Alligator Alley crowd..all after a regular season game. And then the 'classic' exchange with Reed.
