I missed the "really nice job by Mainieri leaving Hess in to finish instead of going to Newman" thread. I'll keep looking.

/sarcasm for those that need that.

Good win. Let's hope walker has his command Sunday.

I guarantee you that 5 of these threads were typed up and ready to hit submit if this lead was blown.

If the lead was blown, it would have happened by either a HR off Hess with no one on or Newman. He was in the pen ready if anyone got on base before 2 outs.

People don't notice when things go right, like they do when things go wrong. That's just life.

I'm kidding. I've just realized that every time a runner gets thrown out or a bullpen guy gets hit, it's Mainieri's fault. Yet, I never see him get credit when things go right.

I little levity never hurt anyone, especially when most of us have had a few drinks on Friday night.

I know you are. This season hasn't gone as well as most had hoped. PM is an easy target, sometimes rightfully, sometimes not. It's a negative place in general. No argument here.

I credit the first baseman for saving a double/triple and the right fielder for stealing an out on what was a ripped "single" to right field.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but let's not act like Hess mowed the down in the 9th.

Hunt, today on the morning show you said "LSU can't try and play Kentucky's game, they need to play LSU's game."

What exactly did that mean? Not hit homeruns like Kentucky in a small park? LSU's game lately is to only score 2-3 runs.

He's our best bullpen pitcher right now

I'm glad we won and Hess got it done, but it wasn't pretty and PM still should have put in Newman, especially when Hess let a runner on in the 9th and they had tagged some balls really hard off him

Hess has been good but he's not our best bullpen guy; Newman is

They did hit him hard in the 9th but all's well that ends well.

HESS the man of the evening.

Hess was lights out. I was surprised PM left him in for the 9th.

I was skeptical of Hess in the bullpen based on his early performances. But since he's focused solely on relieving, he's been lights out. Tonight was the first time he recorded fly ball out in the month of April (out of the pen). He was striking out 42% of batters faced coming into tonight in his relief appearances since he stopped starting. All the other outs he got were ground outs.

Juggling the two roles didn't work, but mainieri definitely gets credit for letting him focus solely on relieving.

Walker gets credit and the falling off of Peterson and Reynolds. And Norman's injury. And PM too of course...

I meant LSU can't dig in and try to hit a bunch of HRs. LSUs game is pitching, defense, hit and runs. Seeing 310 down the line can totally change your approach if you let it.

Its still early & with no game tday, there will be plenty of chatter in here...
I didn't see any Pap appreciation threads either...
Surely, the Negative Nancy's on this board are not just a bunch of hypocrites, that they will actually say something good about 1 of their targets when it is deserved...
