Very excited about the win and thrilled to get the chance to cheer the tigers to another National Chalpionship.
However, I have a few questions about Zach Hess after that last inning.
He seemed to have lost a lot of consistent velocity (93-96) to (89-92). This could've been get me over pitches, but it seemed to be the dirt balls were the same speed.
Is he fatigued with less than 3 innings and 60 pitches in 4-5 days?
Is CPM as confident with him as he was today and going into the game, in a future situations?
What's up with the command going down the pooper?
Like I said, sorry to crap on a huge win, but he kind of scared the shite out of me

He got it done
He was outstanding in the 8th
He's been unreal that we are just spoiled
Plus it's good he got to get through that

The hype got to him-- He got nervous with a couple of batters..

I think he's good for one inning Monday--which I hope is closing the ninth.
I hope we don't try to stretch him for two Monday.

He will be throwing 97 next outing. It's tough to have your best stuff back to back nights.

Seemed like the hit really shook him up. He worked through it.
Did not look like he had the same velocity today.
He will get a day off and we will likely need him on Monday night.

He was definitely fatigued. Hopefully the day off and adrenaline will be enough. His stuff is still good (92 with cut still dominant even if it isn't 96 with cut), but the issue is control if fatigue impacts his mechanics. Hopefully we have so much of a lead Monday that we don't need him... BUT, he probably at most has two more appearances because it's not like he's coming in a game we're losing late. Time to dig deep and see what's in the tank.

Can you imagine the pressure this kid was under in the 9th?
I don't think I'd be able to walk much less throw strikes.

this. for gods sake, the man is not a machine. the 9th was shaky but he still threw enough great pitches to win the game; and he didn't even give up a run. shite, one hit and one walk will not kill his era or whip.

I'd be a little worried too.
It seemed that base hit rattled him for some reason.

my guess is he had a case of nerves today. After all this is the biggest game of his life. He settled down and finished ok
Today he matured
Tomorrow he will rest
and then for the rest of the CWS he will be back to himself
Give him a break

Hess was a little fatigued. He's been pitching with the game on the line all week. He just threw 21 max effort pitches yesterday to close out the win. He looked great for the two outs of the 8th inning. Coming back out for the ninth, he was losing stamina and lost his mechanics for a couple of batters. He's got a day off tomorrow to rest, and I have no doubt he'll be good for at least 1 inning on Monday.

Chill out grandpa it's only 6:30 . Too early to get cranky.
I know he's human and I pitched in college for a bit. I figured it was back to back days, but with so few pitches, it's not like he did much more than a serious BP each day. Not good that a hit, and fatigue caused such a velo and command drop.
Yes he's human papaw but he's boutta win my Tigers a championship and by God Im gonna post a thread about it.

More nerves with a 5-run lead? GTFO

However, one of the announcers noted his arm slot was down a little bit. That's usually a sign of fatigue. He does need some rest. Put some ice on that shite too. We need him in that 8th inning form.

A 5 out outting on the second of back to back days caused him to lose velocity and he tried to make up for it by throwing harder and his mechanics suffered for it. I would not have brought him in in the 8th. The next step for him is learning how to pitch instead of throw when he doesn't have his best stuff.
