Just got an email from the hotel I booked in Green Bay for the Wisconsin game, last July (did not prepay). It was out of the blue and simply reads like this: "Your reservation has been updated and a summary is provided below. We look forward to seeing you soon! In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please let us know."

"Updated" means that the rooms that were originally around $80 a night, are $225 a night now.

If you booked your room early as well, you might want to look and see what sort of "updates" your reservation has now.

I have never heard of hotel's changing the price on you after the reservation was made. I book hotels all the time.

Expedia - only pay for first night of reservation and rate is locked in. Of course, my rate was $200/night anyway. It's all about supply and demand. There are 4300 hotel rooms in the local Green Bay area. Do the math.

It happens all the time. If you can cancel, they can change the reservation.

From Seinfeld:

Jerry: I don’t understand, I made a reservation, do you have my reservation?

Agent: Yes, we do, unfortunately we ran out of cars.

Jerry: But the reservation keeps the car here. That’s why you have the reservation.

Agent: I know why we have reservations.

Jerry: I don’t think you do. If you did, I’d have a car. See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don’t know how to *hold* the reservation and that’s really the most important part of the reservation, the holding. Anybody can just take them.

I can't imagine one of the major chains ever doing this. Makes sense the cheaper, shitty hotels/motels that make a lot less money would do this to stay afloat.
