Harris' ability to make plays with his feet

Does anyone feel like Harris could potentially make more plays with his feet this year than last? It's really one of the strengths of his game and with the focus on wanting to pass the ball more I feel it should definitely create more scramble opportunities for Harris.
Fournette averaged 6.5 yards per carry last season which is excellent, but consider Harris over 50 designed carries or scrambles averaged 6.9 yards himself.
It's really deadly when Fournette lulls defenses into triggering onto him and nobody is looking for Harris to keep on a shotgun read.

Harris played with a sports hernia from the Bama game on. Prior to that he wasn't terrible. I expect him to look like a much different QB this year.

If we could run the zone read and Harris makes the right read to keep it when the DE crashes, it would likely be a devastating to the defense.
However, we saw many times last season that Harris handing it to Fournette was either called in from the booth regardless of whether the DE crashed or Harris just couldn't make the right read.

I am assuming you mean by design? Because I'd rather him not try to make plays with his feet when he should be staying in the pocket making his reads.

I agree... The run game would definitely much more dangerous if they added more "Read option" into the scheme. We saw a few plays here and there last season but not consistently.
I would also like to see more formations with Guice and Fournette on the field at the same time. Most of the time when we make in-game subs at the RB spot its obvious who is about to get the ball. Things would be so much better if they used the threat of Fournette to open up opportunities for other guys to get the ball.

Got to love our fans. Everyone hated the option when they ran it under crowton. Now everybody wants the qb to run more.

We ran a speed option and many times to the short side of the field, that was the dumb part. Read option is completely different.

I don't mind an option or something here and there, but I just don't know if he's bulky enough to really take on a healthy running role in this offense.

I personally would like to see it more, but if he's not making the plays in practice, they aren't going to do it in games.
I just know that if harris runs and it doesn't work, the fans will bitch about taking carries away from the perfectly capable running back.

It worked last season, see stats in my OP. Harris was pretty good when keeping the ball or scrambling.

He has ALWAYS been able to make plays with his feet, dating back to HS. IDK if he was scared last year or was instructed not to take take off by the coaching staff. Either way, this is a weapon he needs to use more this season.

As far as scrambling in the pocket I think the concern last season was that his mechanics were already shaky with straight drop back. If his accuracy improves, his greatest asset would be designed roll outs with a run option.
With read options the QB is more likely to take a square on hit and I'm not sure Harris had the build to take very many hard hits. I don't know how much physical development Harris has had in the offseason, but it would certainly be worth exploring this season.

I think so, and i think if he isn't hurt he will.
I really love the option game on the goal line. (I know it didn't go so great against Ole Miss)

I'd rather him do both and use his legs to buy time. If there's an opening, take it.

He can also use his feet to "climb the pocket" so to speak, as opposed to breaking out the pocket and effectively eliminating half the field to which he can throw to.

This is really where Etling could be very valuable. If they have faith for him to come in and move the offense for a series or two--or even a game or 2--I think they will absolutely run Harris more this year. It could be a huge advantage for our offense. I think last year they were too scared of him getting hurt.
