Is this really the board for this? Dude isn't associated with LSU at all

I don't understand this criticism, 1242. It's very interesting to me because of his rejection of LSU. And because the rejection was at the last minute and cost us another recruit, I feel schadenfreude towards Kiel's misfortune. And, ultimately, all you have to do is stop reading the thread if you don't like it.

ND is a destination job. Kelly isnt going anywhere except the NFL, and he may never get that itch.

Didnt the "Gunner" saga cost us a great lineman who was going to sign this past Jan?

Yes and no. The guy he cost us was Patrick Miller, a 4* OL from Florida that was one of the cornerstones of the class.

He is starting at Right Tackle across from Greg Robinson at LT, both as Frosh (G-Rob as a RS) at Auburn this year.

The worst of it is that we made multiple mistakes. Yes, Kiel was an unforeseen one. But after that, we were one spot too heavy and had to ask one of the early enrollees to leave.

So we decided-in our infinite wisdom-to ask Miller to either leave or pay OUT OF STATE tuition for a semester, and decided to keep Trey Granier.

Now I'm not one to dog players out that don the purple & gold, but ask me if they both stay injury free how their careers will end up, and I'll have to say that Miller's going to play in the league, and Granier may make camp with a team.

But beyond that, why not ask Trey to either sit out or pay his own way for one semester? Wait 6 months, or simply take out Pell Grants. As an in-state kid, that cost is WAY cheaper and easier to swallow than it would be to ask an out-of-state player.

To our credit, we went out of our way to find a home for Miller at Auburn. But we handled that entire situation with a stunning lack of common sense for the long-term health of our football program.

So you are saying Miles is better at coaching QB's than Kelly?

Miles doesn't coach QB's, Kragthorpe does. Name me the QB's who Kelly has tutored to greatness.

Whoa now! This is way too lucid, informative, and well thought out for this message board!!!

The QB competition at LSU will be insane once Mett leaves.

whats annoying about this statement is, we all know what speed these kids get developed at here (LSU) and thats what is going to be insane. I don't think "QB Guru" means what LSU thinks it means.

If ND wins a NC, he will never leave on his own volition, he'll just coach until he's forced out as he approaches Knute Rockne's coaching win total.

it wasn't Granier, Louis and Feist were the early enrollee LBs. I know, point remains the same, just saying.

Gunner/Miller and then Torshiro back to back put a damper on recruiting and made me wonder about some of our decision making.

I was at the ND/Wake Forest game midst the season ticket holders. They were talking about this very thing. My host said with the way Golson is playing and has developed in practices, the way Kiel so easily jumped ship at LSU, and the fact that there are other ND QBs with decent talent that would relish playing backup there, that many ND fans expect Kiel to make a move elsewhere.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I don't feel sorry for Kiel at all.

But that article is full of suppositions and guesswork.

If he's 2nd string he may well be playing in the NC when ND goes up against an SEC defense.

I can almost picture Saban pointing to Golson and saying "sweep the leg".

I don't think Kelly would do that to the kid. Be fun to watch if he did though.

Gunner Kiel is a twerp. He committed early to LSU and in the process cost us a top rated lineman and maybe another quarterback. Then the coward did not even have the stones to call the LSU coaching staff to tell them that he wasn't coming.

Kiel is well on his way to being a highly recruited loser. He should sue his parents for being such horrible role models.

Edited for spelling.

This is pretty harsh considering he is just a kid. I'm sure you would have handled everything perfectly.

Cut him some slack.

Coward, Twerp, Loser, Parents Horrible roles models .... gimme a break.

Don't wonder. Ponamsky told us all on the radio on NSD that the reason for all of our problems was LSU Fan's negativity.

I ain't making that up. Said it over the airwaves, at the Bash. Not sure if it was with a straight face, but it happened.
