Great basketball coaches in lesser conferences that LSU could throw $$ at

If I were in charge I'd throw $4m at Greg Marshall from Wichita St. They'd prolly match. Think about that. If Wichita would match then obviously they're still turning a profit. He's currently at $3.3m. LSU fans come out to support a winning bball program, that is proven. Dale proved you could recruit nationally. Marshall has proven his X's and O's are top notch.

I argue with my brother-in-law all the time on this, he thinks throw enough money at a big name and they will come, like we did for Saban back in the day.
But basketball is a whole different animal here. I think a guy like Marshall would leave for $ but I think if he did he would have a long line of suitors more committed to hoops that would be willing to match any offer LSU would make.
Of course you try and make them say no....Marshall, Bennett and whoever else. But IMHO the reality is we will be told no by coaches of that ilk, and we'll be left to hope we can find someone from the lower ranks.

what about Bobby Hurley from Arizona St. He will be a prominent coach one day.

A good basketball coach is not going to leave a basketball first school for LSU where basketball is fourth behind football, baseball and gymnastics

He's 12-14 right now, a year after going 15-17.

Your brother-in-law may need to be reminded that Saban was far from a big name when LSU threw money at him. Saban built LSU back up, and essentially built his own springboard to the bigs.

LSU is not going to pay the basketball coach more than the football coach, just not going to happen. We should hire a young coach on the rise for about 2.5, that will be close to the salary of the next basketball coach.
