With or without adding Hankton what way too early grade on paper, not results yet, would you give BK’s assembled staff? I’m thinking B+ range, what says trant?

I like his staff a lot. So I'm going with an A. I think it's the strongest staff we've had since saban was here

It’s a B. These guys aren’t elite but will be pretty good.

Lets see how this all turns out. The last few years we haven't even looked like DBU so hopefully with a fresh outlook we can re-establish true DBU

Overall A

From a recruiting standpoint, we've got geographic coverage where we need it, we have high school talent scouting and networking where we need it, and we have a very good talent scout overseeing the portal in Polian.

From a technical standpoint, we have position coaches that are top-end and the coordinators should be successful.

I am not sure you can ask for much more than the staff that's been/being assembled atm.

On paper this appears to be an A staff.

Stupid comment. Would you grade Saban's staff as ungradable? No you say because his staff has produced. But this staff of CBKs also has a track record. I don't see anything that stands out as a hire that has no history of accomplishments. Stay on your meds and cool down.

I like this staff. Seems like all is hires across the board that will be able to work together. All know what it takes to be successful. The learning curve will be the sec for some of them including our head coach. Will be exciting to see him at home with all fans and in a new stadium. Will also be interesting to see him in the away stadiums.

Saban only hires great technical coaches that can recruit equally as well. Why do you think they are in the freaking NC game almost every year?

LSU is no place for inexperienced coaches to get On The Job Training. (Matbe they'll be great and maybe they wont)

If your ultimate goal is a Championship, you can't have Up & Comers on the Staff. Go cut your teeth elsewhere. I'm surprised BK has gone this route with some of the hires.

I prefer to give them a grade after next season if we make it that far...

Whatever we say about them today is moot.

I'll do my best to be honest with my assessment.

Jamar Cain: A+ *Best hire on this staff.
Frank Wilson: A+ *Everybody loves Frank, for good reason.
Brad Davis: A *If you were going to keep one guy, this is THAT guy.
Bill Polian: A *Doesn't get talked about enough, this guy is elite.
Matt House: A- *No worries as coach - wait and see recruiter.

Cortez Hankton: B+ *Solid developer and Nola recruiter.
Mike Denbrock: B- *Above average, not elite offensive mind.
Joe Sloan: B- *Offenses were ok at La Tech. Has upside and recruiting chops.

Kerry Cooks: C *This was a gift hire by BK. Guy's career was going to wrong way.

Robert Steeples: I *I love this hire, but it's impossible to grade. Potential to be A+.

I'll give BK a B+ as a staff. I think LSU could have done better at Safety and OC, but BK wanted his "guys" and who am I to argue. Everything else is a home run.

I would give Kelly a borderline B+/A-. I think it slides up to an A- because of how competitive this year’s market was with name brand programs all hiring at the same time.

Out of the hires, Steeples’ upside makes up for the fact that he’s an unknown. With so much solid overall experience on this staff, I think a move like that is ok and not a huge risk.

I am not as doom and gloom on Cooks as some of you are, but I do think he has the most to prove on this staff and has the greatest odds of not working out. He’s really my only real question mark.

This is a rock solid X and O coaching staff and I think that alone is going to result in steady and noticeable improvement over the course of next season. They may not be flashy, but I think they will be perfect for such a young team that has lacked steady, consistent leadership.

I think this could be a great recruiting staff. We have a lot of LA focus, which we all know is absolutely necessary. You can’t do better than Frank, but he isn’t alone by any stretch, which is great.

However, this staff also has a lot of connections nationwide, and more outside of the southeast than we’ve ever had here. Add in a guy like Polian who has a eye for raw talent evaluation to help with filling in the back end of classes with future impact guys and the portal, and I think this is the most balanced LSU staff we’ve seen when it comes to recruiting.

Obviously these are just grades based on how things look on paper today. The Matt Canada hire looked like a home run at the time, but fit and chemistry are a big deal and can ruin a hire than looks perfect. Kelly, Denbrock, and Polian should obviously have it and the S&C staff, as well, but there are still a lot of moving parts here. We’ll see how well they fit together in reality next season.
